Do we keep Lawrence on the strong side?

As a pass rusher Lawrence can play on both side of the line. He's skill set as a rusher is typically something you want in the weak side. However, in Marinelli's defensive line that doesn't use an LDE the same more traditional fronts do, LDE was the perfect spot for him.

Changing from Marinelli's front to a front that could favor more size (just going off the staff hires), could we possibly see Lawrence switch sides?

That's a brilliant point, if the bidding for Quinn gets out of hand they can make DLaw the RDE.

They could also move him to RDE and get a LDE that is cheaper than resigning Quinn if he gets a crazy offer elsewhere.

Also no one wants to here this but there is no chance Tryone Crawford comes back at his projected salary but I think its likely he takes a pay cut down to the 3MM figure it would cost to cut him. That would basically be a free season out of Crawford for the same price as cutting him. Worst case he would be a good run defender at LDE.

Hit to cut Crawford is 1.1 dead cap. Nothing since we net 8 mill but cutting him.

That said, he'd likely re-sign (he everyone look how that word is correctly spelled!) for 2 at 9-10 mill if we guaranteed most of it. That's peanuts for a productive vet leader.

or move him around play to play.
wouldn't surprise me...he's our best play-maker on the line.

Exactly.

Try to get DLaw in favorable matchups regardless of left side, right side, inside, standing up, 3-point stance or whatever else.

It may not always work, as it didn't always work with Ware the stints we would move him around, but it sure would give offenses something to adjust to and account for.

Not sure why you would move him. He's been productive from the left side as both a rusher and vs the run. Hes said in the past that he's more comfortable from that side. He ran 4.8s at the combine and has since put on close to 20lbs of muscle so he's not a speed rusher relying on hand usage. Teams are consitently having to double him, something they wouldn't have to do as often going against left tackles. More and more teams are putting their best rusher on the left side. Team is going to have enough issues on the dline, playing musicle chairs moving your best line player just seems like a bad idea to me!

Misspelling stuff while trying to correct other people...nice.

Also I don't know maybe we'll see this coaching staff make some good moves and we'll be able to trust them to do the right thing.

He has tried RE not as productive. He is a better LE just leave him there. Nobody talks about moving Von Miller to the right side so why Lawrence. I think K Mack plays the left side too. Probably need to draft a young RE to play opposite of Lawrence.

Lawrence offers a rare skill on the left side in that he can rush out of a 9 gap and close, as well as play tight in a 6 against the run and still pressure the QB if its a pass. Very few DE's have that flexibility.

On the other hand, blind side pass rush is still considered very important. More so than strong side. It could come down to what we have at DE, if we can put a strong rusher at DE without flipping Lawrence

They may think they have DE's in Armstrong, Jelks and Jackson. Depends what the new staff thinks of them. As to what may happen there. But prefer they still make a run to sign Quinn.

At this stage would call it a clean slate and just let Nolan and his staff come up with the best ways of using each of these players. I hope to see Quinn back and given his age I think Dallas can get a 2 or 3 year deal at a decent price.

The most expensive run defender in the history of the NFL. Has a career after football branding customized scooters. Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys 2020!

I think Tcraw is back but cheaper
He’s a solid player
I hope we keep Quinn and at this point in his career it might be possible
It’s gonna be expensive but probably short term

whos WE? as if we have a chance, this place does not influence the DCs as much as you might want to think..

the DC coaches will get that figured out...

Agree..

If we can't get Quinn back hopefully Gregory can return and I think Chaisson from LSU would be a great pick for a hybrid defense.

I'm no longer sold on Gregory, he has done nothing and has not played in a football game in a long while. Chaisson I would agree. As for Quinn he will turn 30 and I think Cowboys could get him signed to a decent 2 to 3 year deal.

I like Gregory a lot as a player. He can absolutely fly off the edge.

He just keeps getting suspended and it's stunted his overall growth at a position that usually takes guys awhile to get good at.

But we have to build the roster like he isn't on it.

nah, i'm not in favor of moving DLaw from side to side at all - and especially if we are talking about a permanent move. (which can I assume we are not?)
most teams better pass protectors are generally on the left side - weak side, so I think it's far more to DLaw's advantage to take on the lesser pass blocker.
he wont be going up against a Lane Johnson (philly) every game, and i'd like to keep it as such.

plus Marinelli actually tried to spot him on the RDE spot in nickel rush, and he just wasn't anywhere near as effective as he was coming from the left strong side,
and the occasional inside in nickel rush situations.
