Which was better: Dak 2016 or Dak 2019?

Personally I liked Daks ability to run in 2016 than his ability to throw downfield in 2019. I know that’s partially due to contract issues but a nice balance of the two would be fantastic

nevertheless, which do you prefer?

Both are fine.. For what we were paying and what we got it was ok.

It was managements fault for not going all in more and taking advantage of that rookie deal.

Now we're going to have to figure out a way to pay him more then he's worth and provide the roster around him he needs with less money.

2019 Dak.

2016 Dak was good. But that team was absolutely dominant running the ball. Jason Garret’s putrid offense game planning was able to just run the same 2-3 running plays over and over and the dominance of Zeke and a healthy OL just steamrolled teams. Despite them knowing what was coming.

Simple answer, if we had Dak 2019 in the 2016 team we would have won the SB... Come to think about it, we kind of had a better version of him in Tony Romo.

Seriously? 2019 in a landslide.

Dak only had gaudier stats because he was asked to throw way more. His completion % was down from 2016 because in part he threw 150 more times, he had 5 GW drives and 5 4th Quarter Comebacks his rookie year and couldn’t muster 1 this year. Not to mention he threw nearly 3 times as many interceptions in 2019.

QB rating went down, total QBR went down, but he did have a lot of yards I guess because he was throwing a lot from behind in all the blowouts.

2016 because Dak had Romo on the sidelines as a mentor and it showed.
I agree and Dak has progressed too, got rid of the ball quicker, took less sacks, threw down the field more in 2019. 2016 was great/efficient with Romo and more running game but also proud he has taken steps to improve his passing game. I'm hard on him but think he's just as good as Wentz overall and McCarthy could improve the inconsistencies with the offense in the RZ.

Time to release and depth of target both improved by miles.

It's not even close.

When you’re down 31-3, it tends to do that. I’ll take the Dak who doesn’t throw multiple picks to get them to that point

Dak was more efficient in 2016, he was able to manage games because he had a much better team around him. Our OL was still the best in the business in 2016 and Zeke was at his very best. In 2019 Dak had to shoulder too much of the load. We became way too pass happy. He attempted around 150 more passes than he did in 2016. Our running game wasn’t nearly as consistent as it was in 2016. He had way too much put on his plate this season. As a rookie he would have never stood a chance with the team and style of offense we had in 2019.

When you have time can you link me to this please?

Right. Sanchez was his friend and they were good off the field. Romo was doing the football stuff.

Romo spent the game on the headsets.

“He was into it,” offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. “I said, ‘Tony, a big part of this is we’ve got these young guys and they’re going to need your presence.’ He was into it, looking through the photos and the video and kind of talking through some of the things that came up and kind of talking about some of the plays that we’re going run and how to look at them. He did a great job of being a leader with those guys in between series.”

The Cowboys’ plan entering training camp was to have Kellen Moore as Romo’s backup, but he broke his fibula in the second padded practice and is likely out until November. The Cowboys flirted with the possibility of signing Nick Foles and had discussions with the Cleveland Browns about Josh McCown.

They could re-visit the position before the season starts, but they are committed to giving Prescott and Showers snaps.

“I couldn’t ask for a better mentor, better leader of the quarterback room,” Prescott said. “He’s an offensive coordinator behind the center basically. The things he talks about in the meetings and he comes out here and puts them on the field each and every day. It’s just great to see.”
