Would 3-years, $100 million get this thing done?

Sure, it's yet another 'Dak thread'. If you don't like that or don't want to talk about it, you're not required to. But it seems like the most important order of business that the team has right now so I consider it a topic for conversation.

Based on what I'm reading, the holdup at this point is more about years than dollars. Dak and his agent know that the cap, and by extension player salaries, will be going up significantly under the new CBA. And teams like the Eagles and Rams realized that too, and that's why they seemingly rushed to get their quarterbacks signed even when they didn't have to.

Now that they have, those teams can pay more now with the ability to save big later on, or to cut bait if things don't turn out as they had hoped. Wentz' deal is already looking like a bargain, at an average of $32 million a year, and Goff's is heavily front-loaded, giving the Rams an out clause if they choose, or much lower costs down the road. Goff's deal averages $33.5 million a year.

Hypothetically, would you do a deal that pays a bit less than that in exchange for getting at some of that bigger cap money down the line? Is this a deal that works for the Cowboys?

It seems like a shorter deal, for a bit less money, and betting on yourself to get at even bigger money down the road, is a compromise that might finally get this deal done.

Thoughts from those who do want to discuss it?

Maybe, don't know if that's the smart move for Dam though. You get your money when you can. There's no guarantee the money would be there 3 years from now.

If the Cowboys really do believe in Dak there is no way they will only want to sign him for 3 years at 33m per season, if they did that and Dak produced what would he get or want 3 years from now? 40-50m per season. Cowboys won't do that. The way the NFL is headed i predict you will see more and more teams letting their QB's play out their rookie deals and then tagging them for a year or 2 unless that QB proves to then in the 1st 4 years that he is a top 5 QB (like a Mahomes)

One way or the other Prescott will probably want an extension a couple years into the new TV deal. He will drop down the list of highest paid QB's fast

I think every athlete deserves exactly what they think they think they deserve. I just don’t want to be the team full enough to pay it. But in Prescott case. I don’t see replacing him at this point in time. With anything close to the competitiveness that he should be at. This season is going to make a huge difference I believe with new coaching. I didn’t like the signing at first. But maybe it’s just what we need.I believe we are just special teams away from being three more wins a year. That’s how marginal our losses were

IMO Jerry/SJ knows based off CBA talks the cap will explode in the short term. He wants to lock up Dak long term to save on future costs.
I have a feeling Dak's camp knows that too and wants to maximize his potential earnings.

So no from the FO side. Probably willing to play him on the tag instead.

2022 TV contracts get renewed IIRC

Consider this, if he or his agent were worried about that, they would have never played out the 2019 season, risking injury or poor play, over getting a deal done. And yet that's exactly what they did. They're clearly not worried. And they bet on good health and good play, and they won.

The team wants a longer deal to spread out the money
I think 35 is gonna be a realistic number but 35 over 3 years means 35 pretty much each year but if you spread it out you can have cheaper money now and higher later

3 years at 106.5 with ALL of it guaranteed might get them real close.

But a 3-year term is really short, and especially when the extension period is over (contract is up).
It's 3 actual years vs 4 now.

The Cowboys don't want to do that, from what I've heard they wanted a 6-7 year deal and that's why they couldn't come to any sort of agreement.

But if you get into the 'tag game', Dak would cost you $50 million a year after two years anyway.

I find it ironic that the guy who is inside the negotiations and should know the projected numbers better than anyone is the last guy to get his quarterback signed.

I think the comprise will have to be how back end is structured. I think it will be a 4 or 5 year deal thag can be renegotiated after 3

Sure, where do I sign? I can throw balls in the dirt and play air guitar (while shaking my hips awkwardly) like Mcnabb used to...

If it were up to me I would jump all over a 3-4 year deal. It makes Dak happy and the Cowboys get a longer look at him with a different offense in place. The only downside being that maybe the Cowboys are already committed to keeping Dak even if he is a 2nd tier quarterback (let's face it, even 2nd tier quarterbacks are hard to find and Dak is a good face for the organization). If that's the case they don't want to be in this exact same position 3-4 years from now and have to overpay,,, again.

I'm sure they all will, but they'll be under contract with no leverage. Make no mistake, that's exactly why the Eagles and Rams rushed to get their guys locked up. Pay a bit more now, save a whole lot later.
