Tony Romo
2007 Preseason - 35 of 51 (68.6%) for 412 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs and 4 sacks - QB Rating of 89.7

2008 Preseason - 24 of 31 (77.4%) for 232 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT and 0 sacks - QB Rating of 95.1

Marion Barber
2007 Preseason - 29 carries for 119 yards, 4.1 YPC, 2 TDs and 5 catches for 23 yards

2008 Preseason - 22 carries for 121 yards, 5.5 YPC, 1 TD and 3 catches for 15 yards

Terrell Owens
2007 Preseason - 3 catches for 55 yards and 1 TD

2008 Preseason - 5 catches for 63 yards and 0 TD

2nd RB (Julius v. Felix)
2007 Preseason - 25 carries for 87 yards at 3.5 YPC and 1 TD, 5 catches for 29 yards

2008 Preseason - 14 carries for 59 yards at 4.2 YPC and 0 TD, 5 catches for 60 yards

Have the starters scored less this preseason? Yes. However they've all gotten less work this year. The sky isn't falling, the offense is fine and may well be better than it was last year.

As for our defense, it's tough to judge since we're running such vanilla schemes this year but here's one thing to consider in response to the complaints about our defense.

Through 3 games last year our opponents converted 52.3% of their third downs. This year it's at 40.5%. That's a huge drop, especially for a team that isn't bringing the heat

Also, does anyone realize that resident bust Bobby Carpenter has led the team in total tackles in 2 of our 3 preseason games?

you usually want your LB to lead the team in tackles, that's the point right?

good research

Nice work sir. I for one am not too concerned with preseason, but those stats will help even the most pessimistic of fans.

The one thing that does bother me though is our horrible special teams. We went from being one of the best to one of the worst in 2 years.

I just thought it was funny that people talk about him being the first cut and lo and behold he has 19 tackles in 3 games in which he doesn't even play full time.

As a comparison in 4 games in the 2007 preseason he had 8 tackles and in 2006, as far as I can tell, he didn't have any. Maybe he's finally starting to catch on.

I guess he has to get noticed like Ray Lewis does

This is a very good post and needs to be bumped back to Page1 ;)

I think there have been a lot of mistakes made in pre-season so far and IF the team learns from them THEN that is exactly what pre-season is for. Romo got a reminder of the cost of forcing a play in the red zone. Felix got a taste of the effect of a fumble in the red zone (need to see it again if he ever had a clean hold on ball ie tucked in nicely). Amendola and Stanback learned a lot about how 1 play (fumbles on special teams) can change the whole look of a game. A few CB's took some bad pass interference penalties and those seemed to reduce over next couple of games. I did feel Houston played putrid and had a number of bad throws early and drops, where the receivers were open to some degree. A bit more pressure helped.

Pre-season is about knocking rust off and learning a bit more.

I would like to see Felix return kicks. You use your weapons where they can help you the most. YOU PUT THE BALL IN THE HANDS of your PLAYMAKERS. Sheesh. It's not exactly like he would be a secret weapon on a kick-off anyway, get him used to doing it in NFL please. Any opportunity to put ball in hand of PacMan and Felix on special teams, you do it. End of story.

^ What was so hard to understand in the OP that you had to simplify it even more?
