Hennessey Performance has announced plans to boost the power of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to an astounding 1,000 hp.

While the factory Stingray will have a naturally aspirated 450 hp 6.2-liter V8 under the hood when it goes on sale this summer, the Hennessey package adds twin turbochargers, an intercooler, high-flow cylinder heads, a custom cat-back exhaust system and a host of other refinements topped off by a 1 year, 12,000 mile warranty and a set of Hennessey premium floormats.

Try to get your Chevy dealer to throw those in for free.

Hennessey offers a similar upgrade for the existing Corvette, and the price for the modifications on the Stingray is $69,500 on top of the expected $55,000 cost of the car. Althought that might seem like a lot, the current top of the line Corvette ZR1 retails for about $124,000 and has a relatively measly 638 hp.

At some point, we should stop embarrassing horses by using them as the base unit for measuring motive power.

:worthy2: I've only got a dinky 350-hp 5.7L V8 in mine.

Wonder if maybe with that amount of horsepower the Hennessey kit includes a bigger rear wing than the standard Stingray has to increase downforce. I know my C5's tail lifts noticeably off the line when I gun it as it doesn't have a rear wing at all.

Do you think it offends them?

They probably have more fun than a barrel of monkeys with the comparison.
