Why would we want a 25 year old LT?

Because he's a massive upgrade and a perfect fit with our current group. The fact that he's 24 is the reason we're talking about him late in the first instead of early. He's not a perfect prospect, but we're drafting too late to be looking for one.

I help coach D Line at a community college that plays Snow, where Bolles played in 2015. Meanest s.o.b. I've had the pleasure to coach against. He broke two of my d-linemen.

I don't like the fact that he's listed at 296 but for all we know he could show up at Combine or Senior Bowl at 305. I prefer Wisconsin kid or possibly even FSU kid. I'm greedy. I would love to find the next Erik Williams to finish off this OL.

I wouldn't use our 1st on Roderick Johnson out of FSU. Everything being said about him is negative this year. His kick sliding has gotten worse, he has no strength to move linemen in the run game, and he was being blown up by undersized speed rushers bull rushing. Maybe if he last to our 2nd but he hasn't received any 1st round grades yet and may go back to FSU.

Smith was 280ish at USC. I belive he played at 305 as rookie. Im not that concerned about college playing weight as I am about their ability to add weight at the next level

Good point and that's why I said maybe he shows up bigger. I don't believe schools always keep up to date on listed weights.

It does not matter. Terence Newman was 25 when drafted and some people complained about. He is still playing at age 38 long after some younger players that were drafted.

The primary value of a draft pick in the era of the current CBA, comes during their rookie contract and the 5th year for 1st round picks. There is a good chance that an older player acclimates more quickly to the NFL than a younger player and therefore the team gets more out from him early. They can get 5 years from a 1st round pick and 4 from any other pick. If the player is really good they can always franchise him for an extra year or even two if they don't want to sign a 30 year old to a long term contract.

Unless you're Brandon Weeden.

Weeden should not have been a 1st round pick regardless of age. I don't care if he was 20 or 30.

Also he was 29 not 25 which puts him past prime age even during his rookie contract.

This just can't be said enough, Holmgren deserved to be fired for that pick alone...

After watching Deondre Francois get the bloody tar kicked out of him this year, I wouldn't touch an FSU lineman if you paid me.

I'd be shocked if Smoot got drafted after Bolles, and I am not particularly high on Smoot. All you mockers better start mocking Jake Butt from the 2nd on. Jerry loves the bargain bin.

I'm not high on Roderick Johnson. He does have the athleticism and tools to be a good OT but hes a big project at this point. Probably wouldn't be ready for any major role till his 3rd year. He should return to FSU and attempt to gain some strength.

Honestly my interest in drafting a OT high this year went away after Mike McGlinchey said he almost certain he wants to return to Notre Dame for his Senior year. He was projected to go late 1st.

May be best to attempt to go defense heavy early this year and get after a OT early in 2018 draft. It already looks to be a much better and deeper OT class then this years.

I'm an ND homer, and I'm not high on McGlinchey. He had a very poor season this year, and IMO can only play RT in the NFL. Yes, that works for the Cowboys, but he provides no other positional flexibility.
