Still pining for a real 1-Tech going on 8+ years now... Who might be available in the first two rounds?

Not drafting a 1 tech in first 2 rounds. Not with Marinelli coaching the D. Look to later rounds if want to draft a 1 tech, maybe a Grover Stewart type (6'4 340 5.05). Kid is a beast, but small school.

I'm desperate so I'll take what I can get but he sounds to big for Marinelli's taste...

If we could only grab one free agent this year, i would look hard at sheldon richardson. Big boy inside next to collins, frees up that position so draft can go in different directions.

Johnson out of Iowa in the 3rd. Same size as Collins at 6'3" 310 pounds. Has a quick 1st step. Not as quick as Collins but he has more core strength then collins had coming out of college. Also has more then just a bull rush in terms of pass rush moves. Good balanced DT who would fit great at the 1tech. Tons of day 3 DT's that can fill the role nicely as well.

I seriously doubt that Jaleel Johnson makes it to rd 3 and certainly not to the bottom of the 3rd. That's a pipe dream. I thought Collins set power lifting records at nebraska. Where does Tyrone Crawford end up in all this. Everytime I think he's going to bust out, I'm disappointed, He and Lawrence are just good players - and that's all they will ever be

Still hoping those two could be healthy a full season. Like Sean Lee playing a full season, finally lol

I thought Terrell McClain and Cedric Thornton did a solid job this year. Then again, Charlotte Jones might have been an improvement over Nick Hayden.

I think with a re-signed McClain, Thornton, Maliek Collins, Tyrone Crawford, and David Irving (on passing downs) we are pretty set at DT. Tapper, if healthy, can play inside as well. What we need are the speed guys with bend on the edge.

Johnson is not a pipe dream. Mid to late 3rd round is where he is most likely to project. He can easily slip . Not to mention Vincent Taylor out of Oklahoma State , Montravius Adams out of Auburn, Charles Walker out of Oklahoma, Dalvin Tomlinson out of Bama, Jarron Jones out of Notre Dame, and Davon Godchaux out of LSU are all closely grade to or graded above Jaleel Johnson. No reason to not believe he can't be sitting their at our 3rd. A pipe dream would to be hoping Carlos Watkins or Chris Wormley would slip to our 3rd round pick.

Collins easily gets pushed around in run support. He may have set records but he still needs the overall core strength. Nothing wrong with that tho. And Crawford is the backup 3tech and part of the rotation at SDE. He has one more season before i would consider him a June 1st cute candidate. Would instantly get a little over 7 mil in cap space back.

Lawrence was always a LDE. We should have never traded up for him. What a waste of 2 premium picks. Lets hope he can net a 4ht round comp pick at the least.

We need both. McClain is only an upgrade over Hayden when he's on the field, dude is always hurst. DE and 1-Tech are major needs...

DT isn't a need imo, at least if we resign McClain it won't be. I'd try to get Collins long term partner in 2018. Right now we need edge guys and I'm taking 2 in the first three rounds if I'm Dallas as long as it's not a reach.

Someone mentioned in another thread that Thornton can be cut before a certain date and a whole lot of money is saved. If Thornton is cut then a DT could become a bigger need then we realize. especially since McClains track record for durability is not great. Also we wouldn't take a DT unless they have pass rush ability. We all already now how much Marinelli dislikes them big ol 320+ pound run stuffers. If we take a DT on day 2(hopefully it would be in the 3rd and not the 2nd) then it would be because he can help the pass rush.

Well if that happens then we should find a guy. I doubt Jaleel Johnson would be there round 3. I don't like the DT class.

Jaleel Johnson aint the only pass rusher with size in this draft. Charles Walker from Oklahoma & Vincent Taylor from Oklahoma State have quick first steps and are very disruptive. Both Montravius Adams and Davon Godchaux where a load to handle on the interior in the SEC. Especially Godchaux who had good season with 6.5 sacks without his teammate Christian LaCouture who went down with a knee injury in training camp who himself is a mid round talent. I understand you want DE's but they can go very quickly as we saw last year Ogbah, Dodd, Spence, Correa, & Ward go right away in the 2nd round. Same could happen this year. a small trade up in the 1st may the smart thing to do this year to make sure we get a pass rusher.

I still disagree with Johnson, the others you mentioned are certainly available around rd 3 though. Maybe we are looking at different boards. They do vary a lot. I'm also going on what I actually see when watching Johnson. And you didn't mention Elijah Qualls who I'd take over any of the ones you mentioned as a 1 tech/NT. everyone has their own opinion

I also don't see Wormley as a 1 tech. He's a 3 or 5 tech all day

Marinelli doesn't like traditional nose guards. His 1techs need to be able to contribute in the pass rush. 2 down DT'S like Qualls won't be high on our board and I go off multiple boards, I read everything I can on prospects, then watch tape myself to get a general feel on where prospects are being ranked. I don't follow 1 draft board. I have seen Draft wire mock Johnson in 1st which is 2 soon and I have seen Johnson receive a 3rd-5th draft grade. And some of those other DT'S I named can leap frog Johnson at the Combine. In fact Dan Bruglar already has Vincent Taylor ahead of johnson with a 2nd round grade.
