The defense is good enough. I think they need to get Irving in there more. The Commanders opened some big holes for Peterson yesterday. Did anyone notice how strong the Commanders were in the middle on defense? They have two very good young DTs who are going to be a problem for Dallas for years. I wish Dallas would take a hint from the Eagles, Commanders and even the Giants of the past and draft a real impact DT or two.
In any case, the Commanders defensive line owned the Cowboys offensive line. The 3 holding penalties that negated good plays for Dallas are a good indication the Cowboys OL was getting beat badly all day. It looks like when teams run stunts and twists the Cowboys don't pick them up, particularly on the left side of the line. Tyron Smith looks slow. I have seen it far too often. The DE gets a better jump on the snap than Smith who seems late. He gets beat outside and Smith can't move his feet to get out there with him. This is especially evident on the road, presumably because he can;t hear the snap count.
Williams is not very good right now. He may get better in the future and the playing experience may pay dividends going forward, but right now he is very inconsistent. On one sweep to Zeke yesterday, a safety pushed him backwards into the RB to stuff the play. If Frederick comes back this year I and the Cowboys are in contention for the division, I would seriously consider moving Looney to LG in place of Connor Williams.
Don't get me started on the Cowboys WRs. I miss Terrence Williams and I never thought I would ever say such a thing. The Cowboys WRs are just awful. Gallup has potential and I would give him more playing time. He needs to learn a few things but right now he is a threat to go deep. But Hurns and Thompson are just JAGs and not even good ones. They can't catch or get open. Tavon Austin is not that good either. They need a couple of WRs with size and hands. In case no one noticed, none of the Cowboys WRs can block on running plays. It why the sweeps and screens don't work. They miss Dez in the running game because he was a physical blocker. Signing Thompson and Hurns reminds me of when the Cowboys needed an OG and signed Nate Livings and McKenzie Bernadeau. Why not just pool the money and get one decent guy instead of splitting it and signing two mediocre guys?
