Daudr, just two weeks ago Miami set some historic numbers for dominating the time of possession and ran the ball as well as a team can-----------and they lost to Manning and the Colts.

Time of possession? When you move the chains you keep the ball and you best move the chains by throwing the ball. But more importantly you move the chains AND the lights on the scoreboard.

You just proved my point - Miami is a bad team. It doesn't matter what a bad team does, because they cannot score. When you face a good team that can score, you better be able to run the ball to help keep it out of their hands, otherwise they will score as much or more than you and it won't matter how well you can chuck it down the field.

Time of possession also plays a huge part. If you can't run, you are not likely to win because you can't keep the good offensive teams off the field. When you play bad teams, passing a lot will get you ahead in points and they can't keep up, with a good team they will keep up and control the clock so you will lose more than you win.

the only reason passing game is more effective now is due to NFL changing the rules so now DB's can no longer be a factor in the game and dare anyone to be able to put a hand on the QB without being penalized.

You may be right about passing vs run in the 2000's, but that is only because the NFL took the game away from the players. This was all talked about some years ago with articles coming out saying the NFL wanted teams to move the ball downfield and felt that low scoring games was bad for the NFL, hence all kinds of rules came out to entice more teams to pass the ball.

That is why NFL = No Fun League. You can brag all you want about this being the "new" NFL like some 15 year old punk who believes the best way to study an opponent is to play the 200th edition of Madden Football on some console machine.

I miss the time when football was played on the field, when defense could tackle, and when CBs were able to play the receiver.

I don't know why you think a passing league is a no-fun league.

you better be able to run the ball. Or have a great Defense. One or the other.
