3-3 in the conference.
2-2 against AFC East
1-1 against conference opponents Detroit and Tampa Bay
4-0 against NFC West

That puts us at 10-6 and probably in the playoffs based on historical %s.

We could go 4-2 or even 5-1 in the conference. We could beat Detroit and Tampa Bay. So we have some wiggle room in this scenario.

We could finish 6-10 for various reasons.

But all in all, things don't look too bad right now.

....

On a different topic, I was browsing football schedules and came across the Giant's schedule. The Giants could be 6-1 come week eight. But look at their last 9 games (good lord):
@NE
@SF
vs. Philly
@NO
vs. GB
@ Dal
vs. Wash
@NYJ
vs. Dal

The could go 6-1 and easily finish 8-8 or 9-7.

I'm still apprehensive about this team. I think if they figure out a way to beat the Lions, they'll really be sitting pretty. They need the cushioning for the Patriots. Even though I think the Cowboys have a chance to play really well in that game after a bye, I don't think they'll win.

We'll basically our schedule has 3 distinct parts.
Games 1-5 hard
Games 6-12 easier
Games 13-16 hard depending on how the Giants are late in the season.

So we could go 2-3 and still finish 10-6 as long as we go 6-1 during the easy part of our schedule and 2-2 in the last 4 games. (or 5-2 and 3-1).

But, you're certainly correct in suggesting the jury is still out. As it is out on several of our opponents - Buffalo, Detroit, NY Giants, and Tampa Bay. We really don't know how hard these games will be.

We do know that NE and Philly are good. We know that the entire NFC West and Miami are bad.

If we're to go 10-6 the offense is going to have to play a hell of a lot better then they have in the last 2 games.

Maybe, but they need to heal up and the offense can't repeat that mess from MNF.

Apprehensive is a good word for it.

The defense is playing really well and the special teams have been o.k. on balance, but the offense was on life support last week.

The WR situation will improve dramatically when Dez and Austin finally get healed up and play together. The new guy, Robinson, is going to get better as he gets acclimated.

But the OL is chaotic and I don't see them getting much better than mediocre as a unit this year.

So much of what happens depends on Romo, of course....

But having said all of that --- while it is easy to find faults and weaknesses of the Cowboys, their competition is flawed too. It isn't as if there are several complete, sound teams in the NFL. Certainly there are no great teams in the NFC East this year.

The Lions are going to roll coverage to Dez/Witten and make our young WR's earn thier checks this week. We can not have any of that lineing up wrong, running the wrong routes. The young guys need to get thier stuff straight.

I hope we can see Dez get back in the game! We have seen a few flashes of his ability, if he could just put it together for a whole game he would be insane!!

Sig still applies.

This defense will only get better, as in "stomping" people better.

As far as I'm concerned, 15-1 is in sight. I'm relatively certain that won't happen, but until they get loss number two, it is still in sight. Then 14-2 will be in sight. (There is nothing wrong with adjusting your sights as things progress.)

I like the way you think. If we win again on Sunday, despite all of our current issues, the sky is the limit. Players will heal and performance will improve as the season goes along.

I'm just looking to 3-1 right now, I'll get back to you on the 10-6 later. :D

The team right now appears to be playing to the level of their competition each week. The effort is there, they just aren't playing polished football.

Until they can clean up their quality of play, you never know if they will win or lose and it doesn't matter if the opponent is tops in the league, or a cellar dweller.

This is a conservative but optimistic estimate, and I think doable. If we go 14-2, fantastic! But I'd rather go 11-5 and be crushing people and be hot into the playoffs.

I think you are close.

2-1
2-1
2-1
2-1
2-1

Basically winning 2 of 3 games on average THEN going one better at some point to make the total:11-5

10-6 was my prediction before the season.

That was about mine, too.

Yep.
