I was thinking the same thing. SI and numerous others were promoting him as literally the greatest thing ever.

Good to hear that Scott Linehan noticed Russell's flaws coming out of college.

I think this just shows how much mental makeup plays into drafting. A good amount of those busts had nothing to do with talent and more the players just not having their heads screwed on tight enough to play in the nfl.

Whats worse is, Mandarich was followed by Barry Sanders, Derrick Brooks and Deion Sanders.

Mel Kiper says Ricky Stanzi will have the best career among the quarterbacks in the 2011 class
Unfortunately, no video of this one. But Kiper apparently made that statement on an ESPN draft recap show, shortly after Stanzi was taken in the fifth round by the Chiefs. The 2011 class wasn’t exactly superb, but it did produce Cam Newton and Andy Dalton. Three years into his career, Stanzi is a backup in Jacksonville. He’s yet to throw a pass in an NFL game, but he’s still a great American.
Ron Jaworski, someone who actually played the game, made the same mistake. Scott Pioli, considered a "good GM" drafted him and he was a failure.

Kind of odd that they are noting how draft pundits "miss" but NFL GMs whiff just as horribly and with greater frequency. This with having the advantage to know best if they actually fit your team and if you have the pieces in place to ensure they are successful.

Not enough is made how prospects fail mainly because teams cannot develop them. That speaks little to what a "draftnik" does which is evaluate how they performed in college and project from there.
