10 Good Things To Take From Last Night...

People are taking to much into last nights performance in a PRESEASON game. Yes, the second and third units must improve but.......

Let's talk about some of the good things from last night like:

1) 285 total net yards on offense. (Not bad from a struggling offense)

2) Felix Jones shows off his vision, speed and hands.

3) Tashard Choice shows off some of the same that Jones did.

4) The 1st team offense looks awesome going right down the field on the Chargers 1st team defense to score.

5) Romo went three for three. The o-line protected him well.

6) Marion Barber, well, he is Marion Barber!

7) Tank Johnson looked explosive in the middle getting a sack and looking almost unblockable.

8) Zach Thomas looks like the Zach Thomas of old, making a few hard hits last night.

9) Mike Jenkins looks like the real deal. Jenkins made a few nice plays last night. I would think if he continues to improve a s the preseason continues it will be hard not to get him on the field.

10) Austin Miles looks to be in a slight lead over Hurd even though Brad Johnson was throwing the ball to the WR's. I still like Hurd's chances but won't be to upset if Austin wins the job.

So, there are ten things that looked very good from last night. I know that people are getting worried about an ugly performance from last night but I for one are not to worried, it's the preseason. Now, I will say there are some players that need to stepup come next preseason game but for now I am pleased from what I seen from these top 10 players listed.

Good, didn't get to see everything as I didn't get to see the game for a second time. That is good news. Did Spears play end or NT?

I agree, good post.

I also think we should be excited about...

1. Scandrick- This guy is a player (to quote Campo). Showed some nice grit and will really help this team this year.

2. Interesting 4-4 look last night. On Tank's sack, we had Tank, Spears, Canty, Ratliff on the line with all the LBs. Looks like they are trying to get more talent on the field up front...

3. OL- 1st teamers did awesome against one of the best front 7s in the NFL. Gurode really DiD dominate Jamal Williams, something I havenever seen anyone do. Awesome to see..

How can Scandrick help us? He was horrifically injured last night...trying to tackle a QB. He is a soft cupcake, topped with pretty icing.

What i learned from last night.......

Spears is more valuable than people on this board realize.

Our Special Teams belongs in the Special Olympics.....maybe we can get Johnny Knoxville to be our Ringer

We need a backup QB in the worst way. I may have bashed Colt Brennan relentlessly, and I still think he isn't all that...but he is a gamer with a ton of moxie. he has what guys like Flutie and Romo have.....you can't teach it. either you have it or you don't. Apparently he has it. Maybe we should have drafted him afterall. I am hoping that we can get Chris Simms from TB. I will accept Gray from Indy.

PacMan needs lots of reps to get rid of all that rust

Roy is getting back to the Roy of old

Our backup OL sucks. They need to step it up or get the bleep outta Dodge

We finally have 3 solid RBs and a FB for the first time in a very long time.

We need to do a better job of protecting the ball....too many turnovers or near turnovers last night.

We also need to do a better job of not committing penalties. We need to be more like SD.

All in all, there were some good things and some very bad things. I am glad we had a lot of negatives from last night. It keeps the players and coaches focused on the task at hand and it brings them down off their hype horse.....the best thing about last night was NO INJURIES.

Also good for us that most of our complaints are about backups and 3rd stringers. (of course ST's is a legit concern)

Someone already mentioned Spears. He was in the backfield a lot when he was in. He has been solid for us, but maybe this is the year he takes it to the next level. He certainly has the potential.

A.Jones had a bad game, but the good thing was that he was with the receivers each time, so I think he will be alright once he adjusts to the game (never saw him left in the dust, besides that whiff on the screen pass)

The starting O-line looked Dominant. The running backs were getting a free yard to their stats just because the line was so strong. Romo didn't even have to break a sweat once.

On defense, with the starters in, we were getting a lot of pressure on the QB. And SD has a pretty good offensive line. Rivers was running and checking down a lot to avoid the rush.

Very happy with our rookies (Jones,Jenkins, Choice). Cant wait to see some of the Marion Jones packages.

With our starting D in, I thought the coverage by our DB's was very good. If the refs dont bail SD out with a very questionable PI call on Hamlin, our defense would have had two 3 and outs in a row against SD's starters.

The best thing of all though was FINALLY being able to watch my Cowboys play again!

One thing im worried about is the 10 yard cushions i know they are playing in a vanilla defense but i just don't want to see that during the season because i feel we have the talent in the secondary to play press coverage. When Wade had Jenkins 10 yards back Rivers noticed it and threw a pass to some WR and he ran in front of jenkins for a 8 yard gain. Then the next play Jenkins plays press coverage and he breaks up the pass that was thrown to the reciever he was covering

I thought all three of the runners (MB3, Jones, and Choice) showed why Cowboy fans should be excited about the backfield.

Austin, a guy who needs to step up, IMO, certainly showed well. I was definitely impressed with his route running and finishes to plays/catching the football.

Zach Thomas was the guy who probably thrilled me the most. Talk about a backer who fills and finishes. He has an awareness that just can't be taught. Please, Lord, let this man stay healthy. I'm not sure any of us realize the impact Thomas could have on this unit.

Also, really liked what I saw out of Jenkins and Scandrick.

That's a good point about Gray, as I don't see him making the team.
