I usually dismiss arguments of "don't draft a player that plays position X at school Y" because most of the time that argument is from fans overreacting to 1 or 2 busts in recent memory. But here I've compiled 10 years of highly drafted RB's (rounds 1-3) from an entire conference so I think the sample size is a little more appropriate.

Chris Perry- 1st
Maurice Clarett- 3rd
Laurence Maroney- 1st
Brian Calhoun- 3rd
Brandon Jackson- 2nd
Tony Hunt- 3rd
Rashard Mendenhall- 1st
Beanie Wells- 1st
Shonne Greene- 3rd
Mikel Lashoure- 2nd
Le'veon Bell- 2nd
Montee Ball- 2nd
Carlos Hyde- 2nd

So does this draw concern from anyone else when they are looking at the whole picture of Elliot? Obviously Bell, and to some degree, Hyde in recent history help to buck the trend a little bit, but the overall history of successful Big 10 RB's transitioning to the NFL just isn't great.

Hopefully I didn't miss anyone, and if I did it was unintentional.

Forgot Melvin Gordon who didn't do too well last year, but could be due to the team situation.

I'm on board with searching for a mid/late round sleeper RB and falling back to using a high pick on next year's RB class if it doesn't work out over taking Zeke myself.

I think you're in line with the Cowboy brass. Not saying that we will not end up not taking Elliot, but it won't be at 4.

Elliot is overrated.. He's good but for him to be considered top 5 is laughable.

Give me Henry a round later.

That info is as deflating as a New England Patriots football in the cold.

Of those backs only Le'veon Bell was drafted by a team with a Pro Bowl QB and Pro Bowl WR. Generally that makes the backs job easier. He has done exceptionally well when healthy. He is an exceptional talent with a supporting cast.

If Elliott ends up in Dallas he not only has Romo and Dez but a Pro Bowl TE in Witten and multiple Pro Bowl Olinemen. That should make an exceptional talent's job easier.

All of these guys had reasons why they weren't considered elite. They were not nearly as complete as Zeke

Why not hammer home your point by also listing the same for other college conferences over the past 10 years? The draft/UDFA is a lot like life: A few winners but a whole lot of losers.

If anything this tells me that you can't just plug and play RBs and expect the same production as some on this board want you to believe.

Yup, system fit and surrounding talent trumps any RBs personal athleticism all day. Can't be a 1 dimensional team. Any d coordinator worth a damn can key in on what you're good at and take it away. Have to keep them guessing. Gotta be a generational talent like AD to be successful in a crappy situation and even he has had plenty of rough games where the other team just went all out in shutting him down.
