It’s possible. You sold me. Milton is my choice for surprise cut of the preseason.
Zero cap hit.

Doh. I misread what you wrote. So Milton is the one we can lose on practice squad? He played well too, but I've never seen him as a future QB. I'd rather take my chances with Howell.I sold you on Milton being cut? I must be a bad salesman because that wasn't my point.
Noi think it was because a QB got hurt or something and they ran out of QBs to play the gameI thought that was only during the pandemic.
Why would they have Howell on the practice squad if they would prefer him over Milton on game day?And that is the negative of putting Howell on the practice squad. I don't know if he could be brought up for games and Milton be made the inactive (not sure it works that way). But I would be OK with Milton being the game-day backup and having Howell in reserve on the practice squad in case Milton tanks it.
You can keep as many QBs as you want but for them to be eligible on game day they have to be a) on the 53 man roster and b) either on the 48 man gameday roster or designated as the emergency QB.I thought that was only during the pandemic.
The hit is there no matter if we cut or keep him. If we can get him to the practice squad, then he benefits from the guaranteed money and we benefit from him being on the PS. It's just a question of whether he'd agree to it. He doesn't have to worry about a pay cut if he does. Practice squad players make up to $400,000 per season but with his money guaranteed when he signed, I'd assume he has to get all $2.5 million, which is reason for him to agree to the PS spot. Of course, he might want to take the money and run to another team that would give him more money. But other than that, what does it matter if we pay him $2.5 million on the regular roster or on the PS?2.5M cap hit to cut Howell.
Just to not risk Milton to waivers. Howell doesn't have to go to waivers, so the team could come to an agreement to have him on the PS, especially since it is paying him $2.5 million no matter what. However, I think if we kept Howell on the PS, we'd be OK with Milton as the game-day backup with Howell to turn to if he blows the opportunity. Why would they have Howell on the practice squad if they would prefer him over Milton on game day?
Just to avoid putting Milton on the practice squad?
If that’s the case, then using a valuable spot on the 53 man roster on a guy that you wouldn’t even trust to play in case of an injury would be extremely unusual and I don’t think it’s ever happened.
Outside of Covid when there was a situation where lots of guys were out, the last time a non qb played qb was over 25 years ago.
I really want the 4th round pick back.I'd keep three QBs if both Howell and Milton keep looking good. I don't think Mingo is a legit NFL WR.
Yes, we can lose Milton to waivers. We cannot lose Howell to waivers because as a veteran he can chose whether to go or stay.Doh. I misread what you wrote. So Milton is the one we can lose on practice squad? He played well too, but I've never seen him as a future QB. I'd rather take my chances with Howell.
You get a free active 3rd QB for gameday, but they're not a free roster spot.Well you're allowed to keep the 3rd QB on the roster now right?
I understand.Just to not risk Milton to waivers. Howell doesn't have to go to waivers, so the team could come to an agreement to have him on the PS, especially since it is paying him $2.5 million no matter what.
