Let's face it, you can't committ that many penalties and expect to win. Actually, it really should have been more than 11 penalties. I saw at least one blatant hold that wasn't called and Singleton's obvious tripping of Portis wasn't called either. Lack of focus and discipline on proper technique, is what's killing this team on offense, defense and ST's.

We deserved to lose.

Well Singleton stuck his leg aout because he couldn't get away from the blocker that was HOLDING him. That call could go either way.

There were missed calls on both sides as there always are. it just seemed like they missed less of ours.

Yep, they missed calls on both clubs. But the thing about the penalties that is most alarming is this defense's inability to defend the deep pass.

Blame who or what you like. We all see it. In the last month, we've played all three divisional opponents and they have feasted by attacking the deep third of this defense.

Today, those problems didn't come across in the form of passing yardage. This week, it was pass interference.

Without Santana Moss, mind you.

I agree, but Brunell also completed about 4 or 5 passes right down the middle for 1st downs. Watkins sucked on man coverage for sure, but Davis is just as bad in zone coverage IMO.

Did Davis make ONE play in coverage today??

I was thinking the same thing early in the game when they kept completing passes to Cooley down the middle.
And Davis got handled on the TD run by Portis.
Maybe Watkins gets burned through the air but he probably, based on his performance against the run when he was playing, makes the play on Portis that Davis doesn't make.

Yep. You just don't do the things we did today and win.

We've performed like this in losses. We've seen opponents perform like this in our wins.

It simply spells a losing formula.

EXACTLY..... the DB's played like crap.....by the way the COWBOYS top rated defense is pure BS... the offense is coming together...but the Cowboys can not play as complete game on both sides of the ball... something is not right on the Defense....talent is there

First downs are one thing. It's those really long ones that change the course of the game that really kill ya.

And while Keith Davis will never be confused with the better coverage safeties in football, I don't think it's just him. Just as it wasn't only Pat Watkins botching assignments.

A lot of people want to point at the plays a safety makes. To me, just as important (or sometimes moreso), it's the plays they don't allow. Another words, when we see a passer pull the football in or check down, no stat is registered, but someone back there is doing a really good job.

For the record, I'm not here to rag on just our safeties. But it's pretty obvious the problems we are having back there.
