Stephen A. Smith: Is Wade Phillips coaching for his job in Philadelphia?

John Clayton: I think he has to make the Playoffs

John Clayton: The problem is can he find the right coach. Can't see him going to Jason Garrett because Jason Garrett hasn't had a great year calling plays.

John Clayton: Jerry Jones wants Wade Phillips to succeed. Jerry Jones would hate to move into the new Stadium without a Playoff win in 2008.

Also said Cowher will go to Cleveland or Jets. Not Dallas because he wants GM responsibility.

I hate to bring this name up, but never count out Stoops. Jerry loves the guy and now may be the time for him to make a move.

I'm not saying I agree with it.

I want someone really mean and nasty.

He said Cowher wouldn't go to Cleveland because of his ties to Pittsburg, even if Cleveland offered him 9 mil a year, he said that 3 times.

I am OK with Cowher going anywhere except to DC or Philly.

I hope Jerry doesn't waste Romo's prime years (and that of the defense) with bad coaches. Once our window is gone, it would be 1998-2004 again soon. Hope we get lucky with the right coach at the right time

Cowher will probably sit another year unless the money is to good to pass up. He will not be in Detroit but it wouldn't surprise me that if we beat Philly that both McNabb and Reid end up in Detroit and then I could see Cowher going to Philly.

Right now Jerry is our biggest problem and his meddling is what is killing this franchise. He needs to be involved with the draft, everyday operations, and be the dang president. He needs to turn over the GM duties to someone that will let the coach coach and get this team together. Until that happens like when we had Jimmy Johnson, it will never be a true team.

Really?

U mean Jerry wasnt Jerry when Jimmy was here? are you sure about that? Or because we won.....it must be all Jimmy Genius right? and Jerry only meddled when we lost

Amazing.....

The draft? Isnt that a GM duty? isnt some everyday operartions a GM duty?.....

Are you saying that Jerry isnt letting Wade coach? Because Jerry mentioned to Wade about getting more involved with the defense ....its still up to Wade to do it...and may I ask....what has Jerry really done to make u think that he isnt letting Wade coach?

If you think Jerry's relationship to Wade is the same one he had with Jimmy, you are out of your mind. I heard, with my own ears, Darren Woodson say that when Jimmy was there he had final say on everything, and that when Barry Switzer came in, that was no longer true, that Jerry was taking a larger role. Now, if that was true then, what makes you think Wade has assumed Jimmy's spot? I guess because they have similar personalities??

What does this have to do with play-calling? Jerry isn't calling plays on the field... Jerry assembled a pretty talented team...

It has to do with Coaches who want some GM responsibility, like Cowher, Holmgren, etc...
If goof ball insists on that title, it cuts off a lot of good coaching options.

I can only imagine that the Ravens and Falcons, in looking back, are THRILLED that Garrett ended up staying with Dallas. Clayton is right...He has had a bad year calling plays!

But the GM responsibility has nothing to do with coaching though... The responsibility of the GM is to assemble talent, which Jerry has clearly done...

Clayton is an idiot... People on this board were pointing out how Garrett sucked way before the media did... They just started to get on board, after they realized that Wade was a pretty good coach once he took over the defense. But they seemed to have jumped back on the fire Wade board, after the last two plays against the Ravens, despite the fact it was clearly on Garrett for having the defense on the field so long with his inept play-calling.

Nope, he shouldn't have to really, he's done a good job managing the team, except for some of his staffing choices.

Who are those successful coaches with GM duties again? Other than the one in NE?

Care to list his goof ball draft picks and FA signings since Feb 2007?
