Referring to @bkight13 and his post "2016 Dallas Draft Picks" to plan out my selections. Thanks again for doing that. It's very useful info and better than just "winging" it.

I'll be making a trade down, and I completely understand "omg that will never happen" etc etc. Frankly, none of us know what will happen, so I'll just be having fun with this.

Please don't just focus on the trade(s) and let me know what you think as far as the players selected, needs filled, needs remaining, etc.

***Dallas trades the 4th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the St. Louis Rams for the 18th, 45th, and 48th picks***
(I don't know why St. Louis trades down. They desperately need a WR and some secondary help. Maybe Ramsey or Hargreaves fall. Maybe they view Laquon Treadwell as the next elite WR, like a Julio Jones or Dez Bryant.)

Draft pick values: Dallas sends 4th (1800pts) to St. Louis for 18, 45, 48 (1770pts). Quite close, and could ask for a 6th to bump up the value a little more but I'm happy with this regardless. We now have one 1, three 2s, one 3, two 4s, one 5, three 6s, zero 7s.

After the trade, our picks are as follows:

18) Carson Wentz | QB | North Dakota State | 6'6" 231lbs | This is the Cowboys plan for the future. They have Wentz graded as the 2nd best QB on the board and the 8th overall player. A steal at 18. I know right now he is graded as a 2nd round pick, but he is going to rise in the rankings after the Senior Bowl and Combine. His protoytpe body for the QB position is highlighted by his ability to run the ball. Can throw on the run very well, much like Romo. Can squeeze passes into tight windows. Shows good accuracy. Is known as a smart, hard-working guy with an ideal leadership personality. His main weaknesses are that he's only started 22 games, and that he really needs time to work on the mental aspect of the game. Luckily, he's got at least a year or two to learn from Romo, one of the best QBs in NFL history. Perfect situation.

34) Desmond King | CB | Iowa | 5'11" 200lbs | Has the right mental makeup for the position. Good size. Willing tackler. Fluid, loose hips. Good instincts and aggressiveness. Good ball skills. Lacks elite top-end speed. One of the best run-stopping CBs in college. I truly believe he could start Game 1 next year opposite Scandrick.

45) Joshua Perry | LB/DE | Ohio State | 6'4" 254lbs | Uber aggressive player. One of the leaders of the Ohio State defense. Teammates respect him and call him the "consummate teammate" due to his leadership qualities. Plays with a non-stop motor. Relentless hustle. Strong hands and uses them well to shed blocks. Led the team last year with 124 tackles. Underrated, hard working, mature "blue collar" worker.

48) Austin Johnson | DT | Penn State | 6'3" 325lbs | Big man. Tree trunks for legs. Very stout at the line of scrimmage. Can handle double teams without losing ground. Very good anchor. Good awareness and pursuit for a man his size. High effort, non-stop motor kind of guy. Need pass rush refinement (despite his 5.5 sacks this year). Piled up 13 tackles for a loss this year. Day 1 starter over Hayden with heaps of potential.

68) Tyler Matakevich | LB | Temple | 6'1" 232lbs | Very good LB prospect. At worst, he's great depth, but has a very high ceiling. Could develop into something special. I love the idea of him learning from Matt Eberflus. The leader of Temple's defense. Great quickness and anticipation. Takes good angles. Good blitzer from the LB position. Plays like a whirlwind. Absolute non-stop motor and relentless.

103) Bralon Addison | WR | Oregon | 5'10" 190lbs | Absolute speedster. Very compact build with amazing agility and acceleration. Will stretch the field. Very good hands. Seriously though, this guy is deceptively fast. The home-run threat this offense needs. Does not have a big body and is a bit undersized to play on the outside. Many teams will view him as a slot receiver only. Very reminiscent of Brandin Cooks, with similar size and playmaking ability.

135) Kevin Byard | S | Middle Tennessee | 5'11" 226lbs | Shorter than your prototype safety and does not have elite speed, so those two factors will limit his draftability. However, he has loose hips and very good change of direction. Turns into a WR when the ball goes in the air. Great awareness. Reads the QBs eyes. Great timing and hands to leap for the INT. Has had 15 interceptions in the last 3 years. Ball hawk that thinks he's a WR. Takes good angles.

173) BPA
189) BPA
212) BPA
213) BPA

Free Agency Acquisitions:
1) Lamar Miller -or- Doug Martin

Like it but not too familar with the last two picks. Love the Wentz, King, lbs picks. Good job.

Bralon Addison is a nice little WR. Shifty, speedy receiver with good hands that can stretch the field. Something that we've been missing for several years. Think Brandin Cooks in New Orleans.

Bralon Addison career stats: 141 catches for 1908 yards (13.5avg) and 20 TDs. Also returned 36 punts for 450 yards (12.5avg) and 3 TDs.

Kevin Byard is a solid safety IMO. He's a bit short for the position and will not blow you away with his 40 time. These two factors will make some teams shy away from him, as well as the level of competition he faced. What he does have going for him is that he has 15 career INTs. Serious ball hawk. He was often utilized as a single high safety at Middle Tennessee. Has 37 consecutive starts.

Kevin Byard career stats: 246 tackles, 15 INT (4 returned for TDs), 11 PBU, 5 FF, 1 FR, and returned his one and only punt return for a TD.

Anything in particular you don't like? Certain players? Just curious and always enjoy seeing it from another person's point of view.

I love the trade. I would try to do another one. 18 for 31 and 63.

31 Michael Thomas WR - bigger target
34 Desmond King CB- Agree on this one
45 Kendall Fuller CB- I don't want Carr or Mo back. Either one of them
48 Jeremy Cash SS - So long Church and WIlcox too
63 Vernon Butler DT - the type of DT I have been waiting forever for
68 Devontae Booker RB - Would be great running behind our line
103 Eric Striker OLB - We need LB's and he is a good one
135 Leraven Clark OT - BIg Tackle for backup
173 Kevin Hogan QB - a QB to groom for future
189 Eric Mac clain OG - Guard depth
212 Stephen Scheu - Big TE for running plays and big target for short passing plays
213 Josh Forrest ILB - Big LB for obvious running plays.

I like King, Fuller, Butler, and Booker. Michael Thomas is ok, but there are other guys I'd rather have at 31. He worries me with his whole reportedly bad work ethics. Haven't seen or studied any of the others.

If I had to take a WR at 31, I'd go with Josh Doctson from TCU.

Dont hate it. I'm just pretty confident we'll take a back somewhere.

The Temple LB also confuses me a bit, with the Perry pick. I like them both, but we won't take 2 LB's. Tyler is going to be a good fit somewhere, but with Lee here and the Perry pick, we don't really have a spot for him unless he bulked up and played Sam. The only problem is, you just spent a relatively high pick on a guy that will only see the field in limited situations. I don't think he's athletic enough to play Will, at least how we like them to be.

Not a bad draft though. I've been thinking of a Wentz trade down, just because this draft is deep and not top heavy at all.

I'm sure we'll end up taking a back at some point. I'm just not overly enamored with any of the backs that I've watched. I drafted both LBs under the assumption that McClain won't be resigned for one reason or another. Also, they are just very good football players. Lee, Perry, and Matakevich is a nice looking set of LBs.

I suppose I could've gone with Devontae Booker at 45. I'm just not crazy about him, and I'm honestly not sure how much better he would be than what we've got. I say that from a lack of watching him play, not necessarily as an indictment of his ability. I suppose I should brush up on him a bit.

If I have the chance to take Goff I'd do it versus a trade down. I'm also taking a RB early although I like the King pick.

I did this under the assumption that Goff was either traded up for or selected by Cleveland. Not sure I could pass up on him either if he was available.

I doubt we get one of the top 3-5 WRs in the draft. The two I really like are Miller and Garrett.

I like the versatility that Braxton Miller brings to the table. I can't find much on Keyarris Garrett other than he's 6'4" 221lbs and plays for Tulsa.

What's the scoop on him?

Mainly I agree with acquiring a QB. I was in love with Wentz but Goff
has been looking super lately. Do the scouting and get our future QB.

Awesome job OP! Love the thoughtful analysis. Can't stand this season, but it'll sure help jazz up draft season. Need to cash in big time on our huge draft capital.

CBS has him going in the 4 -5

hes a bit slow 40 Low: 4.54 40 Time: 4.64 40 High: 4.75

long strider tho

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound redshirt senior turned in a fantastic 2015 season overall, catching 96 passes for 1,588 yards and eight touchdowns.
