To answer the question, the Cowboys had 9 home games last year. This year they get 8. Next year, barring any changes to the schedule they get 9 homes games again - unless they wind up in London or Brazil or something. I think those game are a huge disadvantage for the teams they get them. Hopefully, the Cowboys will not be one of those teams.

I would like to see the NFL go back to 16 games and end the odd number of games altogether. No one can stay healthy for 16 games, why go to 18. And if they do, they absolutely must increase the roster size and let teams project 60 players on the roster.

The Playoff Bowl ran from the 1960 to 1969 season, yes. It was between the 2 second place teams from 1960-66. From 1967-69 it was the losers from the playoff semifinal games. The Cowboys played in 3 of them, winning the 1968 game over Minnesota. A fun fact is the Detroit Lions once 3-peated as Playoff Bowl champs.
Ah ok, so it pre-dated the merger? At least close. Slightly before my time.

I just can’t ever imagine that being a good idea. Even the winner isn’t happy lol.

Thanks…

In 1972 Dallas played 21 games and 7 were preseason, and lost the best qb in the game for the year. It was my first full year as a fan and I am still bitter :)
As the champs they also had to play the College All Star Game, which I think ended just a few years later.

That college all star game I remember . The college squad would get hammered if memory doesn’t fog .

If the owners had their way the NFL would be playing 82 game seasons like the NBA and NHL. Jerry would be drooling like Homer Simpson at the thought of 41 home games and the amount of money he would make. Imagine how costly that would be for season ticket holders. Isn't is bad enough already? If you were paying about $300 a game your cost for a single season would be $12,300. Hell to the no....... especially when I know that money would be going to an owner who isn't invested in winning championships.

17 games is ridiculous

What ? Dallas already has to travel to Jersey .

Let's see: 2024 Dallas Cowboys opponents

Yep, Dallas travels overseas for 2 games and maybe a 3rd time depending on the NFC West team. Going out of the country to Giants and Philadelphia

If you want to get even crazier, NFL teams would occasionally play CFL teams in pre-season in the 50s/60s.

If Dallas finishes 2nd in NFC East, will play the 2nd finisher for NFC West

That would be either Rams or Seahawks . Much rather trip to Ram land . That home game against Seattle this yr was nearly loss 6
