Dont you think 17 would have been a hell of a lot easier if this front office had been more aggressive in free agency and even prior.

Dak should have been locked up last off season. I mean how many teams let THEIR QB get to an expiring contract. I'm not his biggest fan but its obvious they believed he was the guy for the future so just sign him.

That gives us EXTRA cap space this offseason AND the ability to either sign Byron long term, tag him or go after a tierc2 CB in free agency. Even after Jones left why didnt they go get a seasoned vet who would mean you didnt have to put CB right up there on your draft needs.

Nearly 90m in space as the off season started and still we go into the draft vcd with numerous huge holes on this team.

Now we sit here at the mercy of a team of people that thought Taco was worth a first round pick over an all pro, used 1st and 2nd round picks on a guy with drop foot, another with a neck made of glass and another high pick on a guy who needed to sign an illegal contract and was a lazy know it all bum with zero effort.

Way to build a team.........

People should love this thread. It makes all of them look like they are a Genius because they didn't create it...

I wouldn’t have tagged Byron. Letting him walk was a no brainer

But shouldn't they have gone after a better corner than Canady to be part if that group?

who? And what price? I’m not a fan of paying top dollar to corners in today’s nfl. You need 3 good ones to compete, not one elite one

If that the case you need ultimate pressure upfront because time kills in this league.
I take it you want kinlaw or Chaisson in the drsft ?

The made the draft a bit easier signing Dix, Poe and McCoy. At least not if they don't have to go after a Safety early and if they miss out on Kinlaw, they can wait till the 2nd or 3rd day to pickup a DT. Davon Hamilton and Khalil Davis are both options on day 2 and 3. At this point it looks like they will go with a CB, hopefully Henderson or Diggs. But again, there are a few others like AJ Terrell who might fall to them in round 2. Of course they could have more flexibility had they been able to keep Quinn and Jones, but free agency is what it is. At least now they don't have to spend the entire draft on defense. Also Frederick's retirement made things a little more complicated too.

Pressure players are significantly more valuable than CB's in todays NFL. Passing DT's dropped CB's out of the Money 5 positions. Byron Jones and Slay became the top paid CB's this offseason at 16 million AAV. That wouldnt even crack the top 5 at DT

I'm not smart enough to know what they should have done but we sure seem to have more needs than usual going into this draft.

we have completely abandoned the Free agency to enrich our team after Stephen Jones took over, signing Jags and others for 1-2 year contracts will not make your team a perennial playoff contender, there is only so much you can do in the draft.

im excited to see how all this unfolds with a new HC and asst coaches with a different set of "preferences"....different voices...different ideas in the room.
maybe it won't change anything.
but some how i doubt that.
example....i don't think we would be showing interest in a guy like Zack Baun when he doesnt fit the measurements of the previous staff's "preferences".
McCarthy said all he wants to know is....is he the best football player available.
hopefully that means a fresh look at guys from small schools too.
can't wait to watch it unfold.
