Just reading an article with an 18 game season proposal I like. 2 preseason games (don't need more than that), 18 regular season games but each player can only play 16 and there are two standard bye weeks after week 6 and week 12 for all teams.
It isn't fair when one team has their bye after week three while another gets it in week 11. This levels that playing field.
The 16 week player rule introduces strategy into when to sit your key players. Like that, too.
So there would be no football after week 6 and after week 12. Could you live with that? Will it ever happen? Thoughts?

The CFL has been doing that for years, except their players can participate in all 18 games. So far, none of them have died as a result of it.

A lot of things are broken right now with the NFL, the 16 game regular season isn’t one of them.....

I’d be fine with an off week for all teams especially with College Football filling the void. And I’m ok with 18 game schedule . Players only playing 16 games not sure about?

But any extension of the season would require an expansion of rosters .

Why would the NFL only allow a player be in 16 games. That would be stupid. No way they would do that.
How would fans like it, that they need one win to get in the playoffs...oh no, they have to play 12 backups as they used their allotted play time.

Or a team needs a team to lose for their team to make the playoffs, and that team has the entire starting groups to play, but the other teams does not, so the team that needs to lose wins a layup game causing the other to miss the playoffs.

No way the owners and players go for that, and the fans will revolt even more.

I think it is hard now for teams to make it through a 16 game season without dealing with a rash of injuries I think 18 only adds to that. If they want to cut down on pre season fine but I think it would be a mistake to add more games to the reg season

They could cut down the 2 PS games, then add 2 playoff teams per conference. Have extra playoff games. and start the season a week earlier.

I hate that they wait until after Labor Day.

Maybe so, I just think the 16 game season and playoff format they have now is perfectly fine.

Sounds dumb if they restrict players to 16 games out of 18.

QBs are already in a sorry state starting wise. Having to play a backup for 2 games will be shitshow. OL are becoming harder to acquire and develop as well.

Until this team turns things around, I'm not sure I could take 18 games.

I would watch a 52 week season, I love football. But I like it the way it is. 4 preseason games are necessary to establish a roster. More than 16 games would water down the talent IMO.

.....I remember when the NFL played 6 preseason games.... the season has gone from a 12 game season, to 14, now 16 with all of the same arguments, you just can't do it, there would be a rash of injuries etc etc etc.....The NFL will provide more money to players, with rosters expanded and only 2 preseason games....There's going to be an 18 game season, that's a foregone conclusion, it's only a matter of time!!

Yes they could do it, I don't know if that is the best thing. Hell they could play 20 reg season games and increase post season but that does not make it the right thing to do.

The players only playing 16 out of 18 would be a concession to the players to get the new schedule pushed through. Would obviously rather see everyone all 18

I completely agree with you, in fact I think the quality of NFL games has degraded over the last 5 years, but it's all about the almighty dollar and I think the owners and the NFLPA will hammer out an agreement because of that MONEY and increase the regular season to 18 games with 2 preseason games...

You may be right. NFLPA wants an 12.5% increase in revenue they get from the owners and an increase of roster size to add those games or at least that is what they countered with during the last CBA when this idea was floated. I do agree it is greed on both sides of this.

its not a bad idea.....the preseason games are a joke and cost as much for TV and fans....with all of that I like to see the roster expanded from 53 to 57...specially if they want to have each player play 16...I think that's going to be a tough sell. you mean Dak is going to be out for two games? or Zeke? that;s tough

so then the vets who only tend to play 2 pre season games to get ready for the season will play in 20 games,

The money argument is not going to fly and the bulk of the players will never see any of it.

The Rodgers' and Beckhams' style contracts will get biggest portion of the money.

The NFLPA does not really need to got to bat for the superstars as they have generational
wealth to fight those little battles retirement brings about.

The NFLPA nned to stand up for the 5th year minimum wage player who will need two replacement
knees by the time he's 40.
