Just rewatched the 1st half the Dallas/Denver game, for those that dont have the 10 Greatest Cowboys Games on DVD, its a MUST have. A few things:

1) I had forgot how amazing Dorsett was. What a player, and watching him excel in the style of offense we played was even more amazing because he was really a better "I" back but ran alot of his plays from the split backfield. He was a great receiver too.

2) Our defense was just unbelievable that yr. In one HALF we forced 7 or 8 turnovers and had 4 ints. Randy Hughes had a pick and two fumble recoveries. Denver managed only 3 or 4 FD's in the first half, and I think 2 of those came on run plays against a prevent defense at the end of the half. Our front 4 just could not be blocked.

3) Most amazing fact of this games, that we were only up 13-0 at the half and won by only 17 pts. This game SHOULD have been the blowout to end all blowouts. Billy Joe Dupree was an excellent TE, but he fell down while wide open in the endzone to botch one sure TD pass, then caught another pass for 15-20 yds right before halftime to set up a gimmee FG (or possible TD, we were at the 10 or so) but fumbled and Denver recovered. Drew Pearson dropped a TD. Staubach underthrew Butch Johnson by a tick on a deep seem pass that ended up being deflected at the last instant, would have been a TD. The of course there was Efren Herrera, who missed 3 easy FG's.

4) Staubach was actually sacked 4 times in the first half alone.

5) Watching Robert Newhouse is fun.

6) UGLIEST cheerleaders EVER, the Broncos muts on the sideline for this game. Honerable mention would be the one Cowboy cheerleader who had teeth as yellow as some of our smilees.

7) Different game then. Our OL's that did the stand up then set thing. The Denver WR's lining up in a 3pt stance. The Flex defense. Funny camera angles. Listening to Brookshire/Summerall be in awe over camera shots from above the field. What looked like people smoking on the sidelines.

I re-watched the game last summer, and came away concluding that Too Tall could have been the defensive MVP of that first half. Never thought of him as a pure pass rusher, but he had his way with the Broncos for the first 30 minutes. Poor Morton.

He was overwhelming, I agree.

our defense looked better than the 85 bears in that game.

hollywood henderson damn near killed the backup qb in a blitz up the middle.

staubach was out of bounds on that one pass i believe though.

newhouse to richards was sick..

like bb gun said... too tall should have been awarded co mvp with white and martin....three headed monster.

randy white was a monster.

i really don't understand how they could call that johnson td a catch.

We're lucky "replay reviews" weren't being used back then. Not sure that would stand up as a legit TD today.

SB XII team will always be my all time favorite.

Simply because that is the first SB I watched as a kid and it brings back great memories. Dad, brother, cousins and uncles all watching the game and supporting our team. Great, Great memories.
