********WARNING: VIDEO GAME TRIVIA*************

A small piece of information I discovered for NFL Madden Football video players.

Starting with the 2004 edition of the game, you can actually enter the roster names for the "historic" teams. This is much nicer than the prior generic numbers.

Unfortunately--the play by play announcer (Al Micheals) typically will not use the entered names (too much for the software writers?).

Anyway--I couldn't resist replaying the 1981 NFC title game. I entered the complete rosters for thhe 1981 Cowboys and 49ers. When I started the game play I had a nice surprise. The play by play actually used most of the entered names!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some the names Al Micheals actually recognized and used:
Dallas:
Danny White
Cooper
Dorsett
Pearson
Springs
Walls
Jones

SanFrancisco:
Joe Montana
Linville Elliot (an obscure running back--go figure)
Ronnie Lott

There are more than this--these are just some of the names Micheals recognized and used.

This is a very strange anomaly--I entered the 1993 Dallas roster and Micheals did NOT use any of the names entered. Not even Aikman!!!

Oddly enough--the 1981 team was one of my favorites. So overall I'm pretty happy about this.

David S.

PS -- 1981 Dallas defeated 1981 SF 49ers 28-24.

I enter the names of all the starters on my classic teams on every years madden. Mostly two different years from each decade (70s - 71,77)90s - 92,95)etc.

Scarface

Does Al Micheals in his play by play actually use any of the names that you enter? For whatever reason Micheals will actually use the majority of the 1981 roster names in his play by play.

Is there a trick with all this?

Thanks!

David S.

Only the ones that other players in the game already have, for example there is no player in the nfl right now signed/or free agents with the last name Aikman but there are many that have their last name Smith.

Yes

That makes some sense. It is still intersting to note that names like:
"Montana" "Dorsett" and "Lott" are used by Micheals.

I haven't checked, but I guess its possible those names are also lesser known circa 2004 players. Good theory.

I was playing the 1981 roster just a second ago and Tony "Hill" was recognized by Micheals but Septien is referred to as "number one." Overall it seems like the longer I play using the 1981 roster the more names Micheals recognizes in his play by play.

Hopefully--we can use "classic" coaches someday. It would be great to place Landry or Lombardi "likeness" back on the sideline.

Thanks for your input!

circa 2004 TD's son Anthony would have been playing. There was also a safety named Lott may have played for WAS not sure about that. But, as pointed out the names of players who are in the game now will be used if they are entered for another player.

Edit: Andre Lott played for WAS in 04
