1992 Cowboys Roster - What If 2019 Cap Rules?

If you review the details of my previous reply, it's debatable that the 3 players from Minn were better than the starters.

If you were an adult back then, you should know that they didn't need to "try" to lose in 89.

Either you're mr. Encyclopedia, or you have great statistical records. Last year for Christmas my daughter , gave me a book for Christmas . and it's every article ever written by the New York Times. Pretty cool about the Dallas Cowboys, LOL not just every single article. I thought I should put that in there turn I can't wait for football

I don't recall you probably do, did we get higher draft picks depending on whether we kept those players or how much we played those players??

I think the original deal was the following if they cut all the players before the next season.
Two 1sts
Two 2nds
A 3rd

When Jimmy told Minn that he would cut all the players, they agreed to revise the terms of the deal for Dallas to give Minn a couple of 3rds and keep the players.

Basically Minn probably wouldn't have agreed to all those picks if they didn't think Dallas would keep most or all of the players.

No but they have fined teams for cheating. .and Jimmie Johnson said that's what he did . he blew the season on purpose. That's kind of cheating. Or at least borderline. That's why the players from Minnesota hated us and I believe it was Jimmy Johnson himself who stated this. Yes I refuse to play those players so we could blow the season and get higher draft picks. So it wasn't me my cowboy brother

I just realized what you are referencing.

You presented it as Jimmy tanking to get better picks.

Jimmy was referring to not playing the Minn players that had conditional picks attached to them if Dallas cut them.

Not playing them in 89 didn't help Dallas directly in regards to the terms of the trade; however, by not playing them Jimmy convinced Minn that he was going to cut them after the season and take the draft picks. Once Minn realized Jimmy would cut them they agreed to revise the terms of the trade such that Dallas would keep the picks but send back a couple of less valuable picks if Dallas could keep the veteran players.

Originally Dallas would get these picks if they cut the players:
Two 1sts
Two 2nds
A 3rd

After the revised deal:
Dallas keeps the above picks but sends two 3rds back to Minn in exchange for keeping the players.

Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think Dallas could be fined for not playing those players for this reason. Dallas was not doing it to tank the season and improve their own picks by having a terrible win/loss record. They were jist doing it as a negotiating ploy to keep the veteran players AND the picks.

That's a cool gift. How old is your daughter?

I've received gifts over the years of books about the Cowboys. The one by Jimmy is the best. I recommend reading it. He gives insight into his way of of thinking. Many really smart people don't have great people skills but Jimmy has both high intelligence and the ability to manipulate people.

Those were great times back then and I was just at the right age (finished college in 90) to absorb all of the details of Jerry buying the team and Jimmy wheeling and dealing.

Most fans hated Jerry for firing Landry but I was ecstatic from day 1 of Jerry/Jimmy.

I had a gut feel they would do well.

My gut feel extended to the summer of 92 prior to the 1st Jerry era Super Bowl. I attended training camp for the 1st time. That's probably when Erik Williams became my favorite player. Seeing him and Lett up close in person on the practice field is something that's etched into my memory.

I also met Jerry and to some extent Jimmy. My girlfriend and I were crossing one of the little on-campus streets at St. Edwards university and a Golf cart pulled up beside us. Jimmy was driving and Jerry was the passenger. Jerry started talking to us (I think he was eyeing my GF a little bit). He talked for several minutes. He introduced Jimmy and Jimmy nodded. Jerry kept telling Jimmy to wait because Jimmy wanted to get to the practice field.

I also attended training camp in 93 and 95 but didn't attend in 94 or for several years after 95. That gave me an even stronger attachment to those Super Bowls because in some odd way I felt like I was part of those seasons.

Thank you I knew you would have the answer

My daughter is 33. I have three daughters with master's degrees. I quit school and 11th grade went in the military. I never knew my parents so, but you always want your kids to do better than you.

I met Bill Parcells. He wasn't speaking to anyone. As he walked by, I said bill I love the enthusiasm. We talked for 15-20 minutes him myself and Bledsoe. This was in New England at Bryant College during preseason. Just the acknowledgement from him would have been good enough. It's been told he doesn't like talking football outside of football. I love football I can see you are a great fan also. I try not to be negative just curious LOL

I have a back for seeing both sides. My wife is extremely intelligent that's why I married her. I embedded into my daughter's brains that they could do anything as long as they put their mind to it. Gender had nothing to do with anything. They believed it and flourished. But you may be right some really intelligent people geniuses sometimes don't know how to communicate. It's strange that I've been called a genius more than once I don't buy it. Just because I'm not schooled doesn't mean I'm not intelligent. Just giving you background you seem to appreciate it. Be good be safe my cowboy brother. Over the years I developed nerve damage in my fingers into hands. From the military but I'm not on disability. I use speak and text mostly just for convenience. Google sometimes gobbles or misspells I apologize for that.

Was that chemical exposure in the military?
