1992 NFC Championship Game Dallas at San Francisco 1 17 1993

Television has come a long way since Dallas was in an NFC championship game.

Take note of the hitting in this game for those that watch it. A bit different than what we see today.

That was the game everybody said, "whoa, this young Cowboys team is really good."

That 49ers team was one of the best of all time, and Dallas used to thump them with authority.

I miss shoulder pads.

Today's game is effeminate compared to those days.

You guys will like this. Found this video in the UNT archives of the pep rally three days prior. 60k showed up at Texas Stadium to send the team off. This is when Dallas, TX was truly in love with the Cowboys. The children of the people in this video are now Luka fans.

"Harper off to the races!" My favorite Cowboy win because the beat a great team and the elements. Most had the Niners penciled in for the SB because many felt the Boys were a year away.....just a great job by Jimmy and his staff having this team ready to play and not being intimidated...even the post game announcers were in shock.....

How bout dem Cowboys indeed...........

January 1996 <------25 years------>January 2121 <------24 years----->January 2045
yeah the opponent was better !
many said even back then that this was the real SB.

My other favorite game was the 1991 game at washington Commanders ! Yeah they were Commanders lol and nobody cared. They were 11-0 at the time.
Dallas gambled a lot, and some great plays, Aikman knocked out of game, but cowboys beat them ! This is when people started to realize
Dallas was on the way up.

Think I actually look back more fondly about this game, than the 3 Super Bowls that followed.
The weather and field were poor, an opponent I had never witnessed the Cowboys beat... all the history I’d read about Dallas - San Francisco games.
This was what a playoff game should be about... and we won in dominant fashion and you knew then that the mantle was being passed back and the Cowboys we’re going to be the dominant force.
Hard to believe it’s so long ago and now we are as dysfunctional as The Simpsons.

Living in the Bay Area during that time and actually being a recent divorcee I had plenty of time on my hands.. I probably watched 20 hours of football every weekend back then. And that's not counting my son's Pop Warner games on Saturday mornings. But a lot of people forget that the Cowboys historically have owned the 49ers in the playoffs. In fact my comeback when any of my Bay Area pals would start talking smack was "5 and 2" ... to which they would ask.. "What the hell does that mean by 5 and 2?" My response was "That's the Cowboys record against the 49ers in the playoffs." Talk about a mic drop. Seems like the Cowboys and Niners start every decade off meeting in the playoffs.. They met twice in the early 70's then the "Catch" game in '81 then three years in a row in 92'-94' .. It's weird to think that the two have not been good at the same time since.. How did this happen?

Not only was it "payback" for "the Catch" (which I never thought was as remarkable as history has hyped it to be), it was a continuation of a rivalry from the '70s. Anybody remember watching John Brodie at QB for the Niners?

Back when the pants matched the rest of the uniform...
They have been wearing the same colored pants (green tint) since the 70's. Tex had them that color because they matched the silver blue better on TV - looked greenish in person. Once HD TV came into vogue the real color came out. What is stupid is that Jerry won't change them to look right. He could do it if he wanted to. Pisses me off every year when I see they haven't been fixed.

I thought this was shown straight after the game, but apparently it’s the following year after the Cowboys beat the 49ers in Dallas...

one of the stories no one talks about with those niners teams is that steve young didn't really play well. The week before he struggled against the defending nfc champion Commanders and then he gave the ball up and made mistakes against Dallas.

Young needed the organization to skirt the rules in 94 to load up on defense to give them a chance to win.

almost 30 years... this was a great franchise back then.
