Is it any coincidence that we lost our first 2 games that year against Washington and Buffalo without Emmitt?

We also went on to go 12-4 for the season.

Who was it, Irvin or Aikman who told Jerry after that second game lost to get Emmitt signed?

I believe Charles Haley hurled his helmet at Jerry in the locker room after the Bills loss (week 2) and screamed at him to sign Emmitt. Read that in Boys Will Be Boys.

Actually I think Charles threw the helmet through the wall, not right at Jerry. Nonetheless, it was effective.

Heh... I didnt even realize. Jerry started meddling earlier than I thought :D

Trying to cost us the SB's.

Steinbrenner later admitted that, "not" resigning Reggie Jackson was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made.

Jerry was that close by not doing it sooner.

They played an awful game at Wash to open the season, but we should have won the Buffalo game. Had a chance to win at the end as I recall, but an Aikman pass was deflected in the endzone and picked. I think it went off or was intended for Novececk.

I remember after the Buffalo game the Bills players where acting like they just won the SB shouting 0-2 0-2 to the crowd I always thought that was kinda funny due to how that season ended for them :D

Yeah we went on to show Washington what was up later in the year.

Buffalo too.

I'll never forget how bummed I was to start that season.

Then Emmitt comes back and magically everything starts clicking.

As good and as deep as that team was Emmitt really was step above everyone imo. Including The Playmaker and Troy.

The team won 29 out of 35 games (including SB 28) after Emmitt's return before losing to SF in the 1994-95 NFC title game, then rebounded the following year with another SB win.

Such a great era.

I remember Jim Kelly acting like it was revenge for the 52-17 loss. Yeah, right.

Hey thanks for the history lesson. Emmitt was the best.

Emmitt won the the rushing title also that year I beleive. While missing those 2 games, as well as another 1-1/2 games due to injury I think.

Pretty amazing.

It was the season they "avenged" all of their SB losses only to get to the SB again and lose :laugh2:

It was cruelty they merited by mouthing off, what's really great is that no one really thought that Buffalo would win that game even when they led at half time, the fans didn't, the Cowboys didn't, I don't think deep down even Buffalo did.

There's a famous clip of singer Clint Black, part of the half time show, turning to the camera before he took the stage and saying "Awfully nice of the Cowboys to give the Bills a little confidence going in to half time like that".

HA!

Well I was very nervous at halftime of that game. I was in college at the time in my dorm room(showing my age) and I remember at halftime I was pacing and wanted that 2nd half to start right away. I was in completed shock at how poor we were playing. They looked so bad in that first half and it was like the Bills had figured us out from the previous Super Bowl. Then Thurman Thomas fumbled and the rest is history.

It looked like Thurman Thomas had quit even before the fumble, he was getting rocked by the D each time he got the ball. Definitely put his tail between his legs after that fumble, you could see the whole Bills' team get that look of "no, not again".
