What a great draft for WRs.......last year's RBs draft reminds me of the 96 WR draft as far as the quantity of quality picks

1 Keyshawn Johnson
1 Terry Glenn
1 Marvin Harrison
1 Eric Moulds
1 Eddie Kennison
2 Muhsin Muhammad
2 Bobby Engram
3c Terrell Owens

BTW.....everyone talks about us taking Ellis instead of Moss.....but even worse, we took Clay Shiver instead of Terrell Owens. Imagine if we would have draft TO, and allowed him to have Michael Irvin as his mentor instead of Rice. I am willing to bet that TO wouldnt be the diva he is now if that had happened. Irvin may have always been flambouyant, but he was never a diva like Jerry Rice.

Talking about mid 90's draft should be cause for death by firing squad around here.

The "Lacewell" drafts were the worst ever.

Look at allllll this talent.... ughhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Randall Godfrey LB Georgia
Clay Shiver C Florida State

IMO Godfrey does not belong on that list. He was a solid and consistent player. he rest of them are garbage.

Pittman was a role player and Godfrey was a solid NFL starter but that was it out of 9 picks. The other guys were not even legit depth guys.

That's just atrocious drafting.

96 was a down year for the draft but WR and DB had some value. We just waited a bit too late to go WR and DB.

99% of that is who was in charge in the war room. Go back and look at the draft classes during Jimmie Johnson's stay (89-93) and Bill Parcells' draft classes while he was in Dallas (03-06). Those classes were absolutely LOADED great picks. Then look at the draft classes from every other season. It's not real hard to see why everyone says Jerry Jones needs to give up the GM title. Last year was the only year I can remember where it was a great draft class without Johnson or Parcells.

You can see every Dallas Cowboys draft at this site.

The mid 90's would have been bad with Jimmy here as well. Jimmy would have helped a ton on defensive picks but the offensive ones he never got right here or in Miami.

His method just wasn't good. He trusted coaches more than scouts and that caused problems. Dallas had a lot of those Jimmy coaches around here after he left and still advising but they didn't know the players like they did when they were fresh out of a college system, and had been recruiting high school kids so knew them very well.

Parcells fixed the personnel dept but then his drafts weren't all very good because he would override that staff's decisions as he did drafting Barbie and Jacob Rogers.

This past draft may well be the best of the last 15 years. So I'll wait and see if that is the trend or if it reverts to the Lacewell latrine before crying about the GM.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with that. It just appeared that way because most of his picks while he was here were used on defense. He also had an eye for talent on the offensive side of the ball.

1989
Round 1 - Troy Aikman QB
Round 2 - Daryl Johnston FB
Round 3 - Mark Stepnoski C

1990
Round 1 - Emmitt Smith RB

1991
Round 1 - Alvin Harper WR
Round 3 - Erik Williams LT

1992
Round 2 - Jimmy Smith WR

1993
Round 2 - Kevin Williams WR
Undrafted FA - Jason Garrett QB

You can also add the free agents drafted by other teams that he brought to Dallas while he was here.

Jay Novacek TE - Drafted by St. Louis Cardinals
John Gesek RG - Drafted by Los Angeles Raiders
Alfredo Roberts TE - Drafted By Kansas City Chiefs
Dale Hellestrae OL - Drafted by Buffalo Bills
Bernie Kosar QB - Drafted by Cleveland Browns
Tommy Agee FB - Drafted by Seattle Seahawks
Steve Beuerlein QB - Drafted by Los Angeles Raiders

At one time Godfrey was one of the Top 3 linebackers in the league when he was with Tennessee.
