1. Miles Jack - LB
We seemed to have been wanting to take a linebacker early in the draft last year with Shazier. Jack is versatile, good in coverage and a playmaker. Should be fine transitioning to the inside. Despite McClain playing good in the second half of last season, the constant questioning of whether he will want to play or not is unnecessary and inefficient. Alternate: Bosa - Commands to be doubled and even triple teamed at times. Has a history for creating pressure and getting sacks. Despite a "down" year, teams focused on him, allowing others on the line to get 1-on-1s while still providing pressure.
2. Tyler Boyd - WR
IMO Arguably the best all around receiver in the draft. Does everything well. Natural hands catcher, great speed (although doesnt seem that way due to long stride), good route runner, and can play both inside and outside. We need guys who can get open, and this guy will do that. A real playmaker. I believe he ranked 10th in kick return average nationally with a 27 yards. They ran that offense through him quite a bit this year. Receiving yards were his lowest this year (91 catches 926 yds) , but they ran him out of the slot this year. He was also given 40 carries (349 yds) this year. So while receiving yards down, he touched the ball quite a bit and was utilized differently. Highly productive all 3 years at Pitt. Very smart player with the ability to high point balls. Alternate: Braxton Miller - We've seen the hype, we've seen some footage. You know what's up.
3. Alex Collins RB
Might be the second best back coming out. Has great size, good vision, and an ability to change direction well without losing speed. This dude is a beast and I don't think he'll be available here but im banking on a 40 yd dash in the 4.5 range, which should knock him down to the 3rd. whats that I hear?! "1st down!" Dude runs tough. Alternate: My heart says Prosise, but im gonna go with Jordan Howard. This guy goes forward, something Murray did as well. Some injury concerns to consider.
4. Javon Hargraves DT - Small school guy with high production. Uses hands well and can get good pressure up the middle. Had a good practice week leading up to the Senior bowl. We need some meat, let's get some meat.
4. Cyrus Jones CB/KR/PR
I'm tired of (un)Lucky. This guy is a real threat to take it to the house. Oh, and he plays corner, we need those. Although I dont see him competing for anymore than 4th/3rd corner at most due to his size. But he has some skills and we need field position. Alternate: Quite frankly Cyrus was the "name" pick, but with good reason. If i were to step away from his return game the guy I would take here is DJ White, Cb from Georgia Tech. A real ball hawk with some cover skills.
6. Brandon "strong hand" Allen QB
I love this guys story. This guy has gone throbgh quite a bit and was able to work through it and get better every year he was a starter. Hes got some wheels, a good arm and is a smart player. In researching his senior tapes and peaking at stats I found this written about him. http://m.arkansasnews.com/sports/goat-goat-brandon-allen-leaves-indelible-legacy
Very interesting. Hes got the mental makeup to be a qb on this team, and I think, despite the small hands, he will develop nicely. Check out his tapes from last year. Does have this weird side arm release "at times" but that can be fixed.
6. Jordan Lucas SS a physical corner who can who is a good tackler converted to safety this year. From all accounts he has good coverage skills to along with his physical side. Injured his shoulder towards the end last year in November, so missed the rest of the season. This is the one player who did not see any tape from other than his 2014 tape, which is him at CB. But you can see the traits that have found in the safety position this year.
6. Antonio Morrison ILB/S??? Dude is light, but plays really physical and was the leader of his defense. Dude can fly. Had a nasty knee injury that left him missing the first part of this season, but came back with a speedy recover and played at his high level. A playmaker with some depth traits and SS tweener traits.
6. Jacoby Brissett QB - I like his tape and he's got some skills to develop nicely. It's the 6th round, most the guys wont be around. If not taking a QB early, grabbing two here would give some competition in mini camps and training camp. Alternate: a pickup of Romeo Okwara here is probably better spent.
We could still grab a b/u QB in FA and have them battle it out in training camp. My FA would involve the addition of Janoris Jenkins, Nick Fairley, and another rotational guy like Adrian Clayborn. Im not closed to resigning Hardy, but its hard to ignore the locker room tension that seemed to be occurring. Also, is it feasible to take another corner like Brandon Boykins to go along with Jenkins? I don't know, but if we were to lose both Mo and Carr by release, it may be a route to go, then spend our 4th somewhere else.
Also, its possible we could spend our FA on another ILB, which would change the top and allow us to take Bosa. I have a strong feeling both Goff and Wentz are gone by three along with Tunsil. I think one is drafted by Cleveland and the other someone will trade up for (Rams, Niners, Eagles). Sorry for any misspells, on my phone.
