First drive

First and 10: Pass interference on deep pass. Fleming gets in good position off the snap while the DE hesitates (probably because of the play-action) so the DE tries to bull him and doesn't get close to Cooper. GOOD

First and 10: Jackson for no gain. The DE fakes an inside move than goes outside on a run behind left guard so Fleming locks on an keeps him there long enough that Jackson would have been able to burst through the hole if other defenders had not filled it. GOOD

Second and 10: Fleming pushes the DE into the scrum in the middle of the line when he takes an inside move on a quick pass Rush overthrew. The interior had it clogged up with plenty of room for Rush. GOOD

Third and 10: The DE goes around the outside and Fleming goes with him and tries to push him past the pocket but allows him to get to close and hit Rush right after he throws a 6-yard completion to Lenoir. GOOD ENOUGH (because it didn't appear to have affected Rush's decision since he was able to get his full drop-back, quickly scan the field and choose where he wanted to go with the ball)

(For the defense, good first-down pressure by Dorance Armstrong and third-down pressure by Daniel Ross.)

Second drive

First and 10: Run around right end for loss of 4 yards by Jackson. The line slanted right, and Fleming ended up helping Edwards with a DT while the other DT blew between the right guard and center to make the tackle. It looked to me like Edwards was supposed to reach block the LDT and Fleming was supposed to do the same to the RDT, but the center got in both of their ways to hold them up so they blocked who they could. NEUTRAL

Second and 14: Six-yard screen to Jackson to the right side. Fleming set up to keep the DE from going outside and met him when he took his rush to the inside, using an arm to push back Fleming as he tried to close on Rush. GOOD ENOUGH

Third and 8: Interception when Rush is flushed to his right. Fleming picked up a stunt by the LDT, who couldn't get around him and wasn't able to get free when he tried to work back to the inside. GOOD (Green gave up the pressure because Jackson picked him off)

(Only good play by our defensive line on Houston's TD drive was Ealy getting into the backfield to make a tackle on a run to his side at LDE.)

Third drive

First and 10: Jackson on run up the middle tries to cut it to the right and is dropped for a 1-yard loss. Fleming was going left off the snap and pinned the DE to the outside long enough to make a middle run work. GOOD

Second and 11: Jackson runs for 6 yards off right tackle. Fleming's man plays contain so Fleming just essentially stays between him and the play enough that he's not a factor. GOOD

Third and 8: Incomplete quick slant on poor route by McKay. The DE tries to charge around Fleming but Fleming is in good position that he can't do that, so he stops and tries to go back to the inside but doesn't get loose or get close to rush. VERY GOOD

(Coverage sack ends Texans' drive as Tapper shakes loose to get pressure that results in sack by Ross, who has played two good runs by Houston poorly.)

Fourth drive

First and 10: Seven-yard completion to Gallup. Fleming pushes the RDT inside and gets help from Edwards in keeping him from going anywhere. GOOD

Second and 3: Jackson to the left for a loss of 2, but defense is offside. Fleming goes to the second level off and gets in a linebacker's way. He doesn't sustain the block, though, as Jackson tries to cut the run up instead of going wide, which turned out to be a poor choice because the LB would have been there to make the play if another defender hadn't. Fleming turned to run to his left after his initial pick, so it looks like did what he was supposed to even if it didn't turn out well. NEUTRAL

First and 10: Incomplete on bootleg right. Fleming just kept the DE to his left since the DE was playing the fake. GOOD

Second and 10: Run up the middle by Jackson for no gain (big hole on the left side but the play started out going behind right guard). Fleming shoves the DE upfield to the outside to keep him out of the play. VERY GOOD

Third and 10: The DE tries to charge past Fleming to the outside, but doesn't get far or even close to Rush as a chip from the TE kept him from going too far to the outside. Fleming easily stopped his charge on the incompletion. VERY GOOD

(Good penetration by Larkin to make a play in the backfield on second down and good pressure by Armstrong on third down forced Houston to punt.)

Fifth drive

First and 10: Scarbrough run around the left end for no gain. Fleming and Edwards double-team the DE to pin him in place to Fleming's right. GOOD

thanks

Went ahead and watched the rest of the first half, but decided to not do a play-by-play on what I saw from Fleming because I'm not sure there's much interest today in reading it and it takes a lot of time.

I counted two negative plays by Fleming in the second quarter.

On the first one, he and Edwards were supposed to double-team the end. However, the DE fired off into Edwards at the snap and drove him back, which allowed him to get to the QB. Fleming, who initially was protecting against the outside move, didn't adjust quickly enough to get much more than a hand on the DE, but Edwards was mostly at fault for being driven back so quickly.

The other one came during the two-minute drill. The DE charged Fleming hard on this outside shoulder then extended a hand into his shoulder pads to get him off balance and push him into Rush, who was being hit from the other side on an incompletion but would have been thrown off by Fleming's man.

That's all I've got.
