If someone was listed as a DE they were excluded from the list, though admittedly some DEs could be considered DTs.

That's quite a convincing argument to go DL in the first. Most of the guys on that list are solid productive starters.

I think DT is a better value position than OG. I think Cooper is a better G than Richardson is a DT but I'd be more tempted to take him. It will be hard to pass up Cooper though. This is where you need a 2 fer.

Did Brockers or Poe make a splash this past season?

2003, was really, really bad.

I remember Tuna being a big fan of Robertson's too.

:eek:hno:

I'd say less than 1/5 of those deserve a 1st round grade in hindsight.

I would note that on first glance the guys chosen very early were the incredibly successful ones. Not surprising but worth noting considering we are picking at 18th.

Let's put this another way.

With the benefit of hindsight, how many guys on that list would you give our 18th pick for?

For me, approximately nine, with the vast majority taken well before the 18th selection.

Had a feeling that was your point.

I think more than 1/5...close to 1/2, imo. But the hit rate should be higher than that in the 1st round.

fwiw, the all out bust rate was low.

Very insightful argument
lol

It's not like you just added anything either, except maybe some un called for negativity.

I wrote something and then thought I better review the list better before posting so quickly.

That's about a 1/4 hit rate, which is horrid in the first round.

I'd actually put the number around 5 or 6 of these guys, which makes me take the position that you shouldn't ever draft a DT in the first round.

The only way to really make that argument is to show that there is a better hit rate on other positions in the first round. I'm not really sure you would have better luck with other positions.

I think 1st round OGs over the last so many years probably have the best success rate....although to be fair there are less of those.

If I recall correctly. Brockers played well, but Poe was less than they'd hoped.

I know a few Rams fans and watched the draft with them, at the time I was convinced we were taking Brockers until we traded with STL and got Mo and they took Brockers. According to them Brockers was really good and only got better, they think he'll be a monster with time

I heard nothing about Poe during the season so I'm sure, he was a raw project type so I doubt he made a splash in his first year.
