TRADES:
Dallas trades #11 for #27, #59 and a 2006 2nd round pick from the Falcons.

Denver trades picks # 25 & #56 to The Saints for #40 #77 #94 and 2nd
round pick in 2006.

Steelers have received the 14th pick from the Panthers
Panther receive # 30 & #62 & 3rd Rd draft pick in 2006 from the Steelers.

Vikes trade #22 to Colts for #29 & #92 and 5th Rd pick 2006

Dallas trades #27 to Baltimore for #95, #111 and their 1st & 5th round choices in 2006

Round 1 Winners:
Dallas--While alot of teams wanted to trade down if not out of this soft draft Dallas managed to move down twice and stack up both later picks from this draft and picks in next year's more appealing draft class pool. A 1st, 2nd and 5th next year as well as 20, 59, 95, 111 this year make it look like a strong draft potentially. Now the GM has ot make use of those picks but if he does Dallas could really be setup for years to come. Add that the guy they selected at 20 should start right away and can play both the 3-4 DE and the 4-3 DE and Dallas gets an A.

San Diego--The Chargers have a good team and the smartest move has been to bring back Brees as the starter. Now he has a big weapon in Roddy White and a blocker in Alex Barron who will protect Brees as well as open holes for LT. They didn't have to reach and didnt ignore need. For a team that was already good to improve this much you have to take note. The last thing opponents wanted to see was a top flight blocker added to the Chargers OL. Another A 1st round.

Denver--OK so they didnt add anyone and they could use some help. Still Denver was smart not to overvalue drafting a round 1 guy late and instead set themselves up next year for a very strong draft.

Detroit--They got the highest rated QB and one with the biggest upside at 10. With Garcia there to bide 2 years time and Joey Harrington looking like a failed but getting a franchise guy to groom at 10 was a boon.

Losers for Round 1:
Minnesota--The GM was too locked into Derrick Johnson. He would have taken him regardless of slot or need. Minny has done a great job this off-season of turning Randy Moss into cap cash, more defense and better chemistry. Not sure about adding another Linebacker that high while seeing Culpepper lose Moss and pass on all the round 1 replacements. The trade down from 22 to 29 was a good concept but saw 4 DL go off the board before 29. A DL there was a decent pick but it would have made more sense to go with Roddy White. Especially with Cody reminding some folks of Dimitrius Underwood.

San Fran--They probably selected the best player in the draft but lose because they couldn't get a deal to move down and because they were forced to draft in this weak class. This was a bad luck situation.

St. Louis--Barnes was a reach at 19 and after locking up Pace long term it seems a bad use of resources. Barnes could start but they needed a lot more than 1 RT.

This was merely round 1 so GMs could turn it around for better or worse and of course we wont know the truth for 3 years at least.

It's hilarious, every team site you go to, every team's fans have them trading down :D

I seriously doubt Atlanta trades up to get Pollack.

JTerrell, you had this to say on Saturday:

"8. Arizona--Cedric Benson, RB, Texas
Arizona got a lot better at a huge position of need. This was a great selection and a clear winner of the early picks. Besnon is from Midland, Texas and is used to the type of climate he will face in Arizona."

Have you changed your mind or was AZ left out of your post-draft 1st round analysis for some other reason?
