When looking at needs (and yes we have quiet a few) I was trying to play devil's advocate when thinking who is still there when we pick vs best bang for the pick.... I will be doing this for many different positions.

I'll start with OT. There is

Mike McGlinchey from ND... (Most likely gone)
Orlando Brown from OU... (Might be there)
Connor Williams from UT (better chance of being there)

Only reason to look at this scenario, is to find a stud Tackle that can play left tackle in a pinch. (yes that means Collins is back to starting LG next year) Regardless if these guys can play either side or not, Smith started at Right Tackle and most likely these guys can as well. Training camp would decide the best position for both in this scenario. The great thing is if somehow Smith is still having back issues, this pick would play LT and open the RT position to Collins, leaving the backup LG position to Cooper (which I hope we resign).

In this scenario Brown would be the mauler at 6'8" and 360 lbs. His weight might scare you when it comes to speed rushers, but his reach and punch is undeniable.

Conner Williams is one of the best pulling Tackles in the game. A little underweight but watch his game film. He makes up for it in the zone blocking skills. At 6'6" 288 lbs he has the wheels to handle speed rushers and still has a frame to grow into.

With that said I would still take Conner Williams which is more likely to be there as well.... That is if we were to go after an OT.....

Very possible..... In a lot of mocks I see Williams as the 3rd OT taken...... His weight scares many.... Don't get me wrong, I like all three but if I had to choose between Williams and Brown I would take Williams..... If OT is the way to go and you are right, Brown is no push over. We lose out on the zone blocking Williams could do, but gain in a huge mauler.

I thank you for your incite, I know McShay also agrees with you.

Im sort of on guru88 side on this but if we cant find a good OT FA I wouldn't go crazy taking a 1st round OT.
My impression of the season is the Oline took so long to gel because of poor talent therefor low scoring and horrible season. It was more then that [Lee]

OT should be the second round selection. Tyron will probably retire soon

Not sure on that, he puts off surgery because there is no guarantee it would fix the problem (at least not the first go around). Missing that much time means months of rehab, but even more months to get back in game shape. Trust me, I get it. Still suffering from a broken foot. The rehab went fine but the weight gain was killer..... And here I am complaining about a foot. Imagine how bad the back would be.

Anyhow I think he would opt for the surgery before retirement. I just think it would be a last ditch decision. His job would have to be on the line to make that decision. Remember he still made the pro bowl by popular vote.... Shows how bias the voting can be......

If you really do believe that retirement is the option for Smith, then I would want a top 3 OT to take over. They are expensive and can only be found cheaper by the draft. A free agent LT would cost you big time......

Personally, I would not get a 1st round tackle either this year. I have faith in Smith and Collins, but for the exercise, I am showing options and my beliefs on who, if it came down to it. There is no way I spend a 1st on a swing tackle. This would rather be your replacement for Smith at LT or is so good to beat out Smith and have Smith at RT. Either way, it is about the future. Personally I think our resources are better suited else where, but I have seen so many ask about such the last month or so.

Oh I fed don’t want a first round tackle but I think in round 2 you can get a potential starter. I’d have cooper and Chaz as the guards. There aren’t any free agent tackles available.

What’s so funny? Tyron is damaged goods. Unless you want another Byron bell as swing tackle
Retire soon is hilarious. He'll play for at least another 5 years probably more with advances in stem cell treatment and other medicines. If the country catches up to this century, marijuana may not be an issue by then and that will help as well. He just needs the proper time to heal, just like jaylon and he'll be fine.

While I'll agree that back up tackle needs to be addressed, if we use either of our first two picks on an OT our plan would have to be trying to flip Collins for picks now or next year. 3rd round at the earliest for backup/grooming a rookie OT.

Ehhh. I’m not wasting anymore years on hoping he stays healthy.

We will pick in the low teens. Unless McGlinchey falls, for example, I'd stay away from an OL in Round 1.

I think the best option is the Rankins kid out of MS state( Dak’s school), Crosby from Oregon or Okafor Western Michigan In the SECOND round, all would be upgrades at RT and moves Collins back to LG.
