The top of this draft looks very weak to me. The QB's are weak compared to guys like Luck, Ryan, even Stafford. The OL at top is weak compared to Lewan, Thomas, the A&M guys, Tyron, Cooper and Warmack. There are no Ware's or Watt's up top. You won't see a CB go top ten (unless someone reaches) or maybe even top 15. There is no cover safety in the top half of the draft or maybe the entire first round (or 2).
Because of the above I think the 2nd and maybe even 3rd tier of pass rushers gets moved up. Pass rushers and DL in general always move up but even more so in a draft that is weak up top. I think guys like Orchard/OO/Bennett could get snatched up earlier than expected. Even if they don't they are not without warts (Size, production/injuries/team fit).
This draft more than ever seems like a time to fill our needs on DL in free agency. If the DL we wanted 16-18 in the last 2 drafts wasn't there, I seriously doubt it will be there at 27 in a draft this weak.
Sign Adrian Clayborn SDE (20th pick in 2011 draft), Spencer SDE (1 year deal), and Suh/Paea
1) Paul Dawson SLB
2) Xavier Cooper DT (Mario Edwards Jr.)
3) Rob Havenstein RT
4) Chris Hackett FS
5) Tre McBride WR/KR
Starting DL: Clayborn Crawford Suh Lawrence
Next Wave: Spencer Cooper McClain Selvie
Linebackers: Durant/Dawson McClain Lee/Hitchens
I realize Dawson won't be a popular choice at 27 in my mock (for now), but the pass rushers are going to be well picked over by the time we pick and not worth trading up for in my view. Unless you think Orchard can get to 265 isn without losing athleticism.
