We heard this week, that Nolan will still continue to use a 4 man front base, but they will be more of a hybrid scheme. You can bet that we will see some 3-4 formations as well.

Does the team have the right defensive personnel to play multiple schemes?

-Clearly they need a true, run plugging NT.
-Outside of Crawford, they are little to choose from who can play the 3-4 DE position.

2 Fa's that fit a hybrid scheme:

-Arik Armstead SFO (has played DE in the 3-4, his breakout season has been at DE. Has the ability to kick inside. Armstead could replace Quinn at RE, with the flexibility to play either scheme.

-Vic Beasley ATL (he is more of a 3-4 OLB, but has experience playing linebacker in the 4-3 scheme. Had a few down seasons after his 15.5 sack year. The Cowboys could play him in many different spots in any scheme.

Just say no to Vic. He's as on and off as a broken lighter.

Don't want the 3-4 but if that happens the main function is to tie up blockers so LBs can get to the ball. Big linemen that command frequent double teams are ideal.

Quinn might be just as expensive.

but since we are maintaining the 4-3 and its clearly Quinn's best scheme fit, you know you're more likley to get 12-14 sack effort from quinn
than beasley ....and keep in mind that quinn missed 2 game per controversy suspension.
the only downside is he is a average run defender and he will be 30 years old come May.

Dunno if Stephen is gonna put much invested money in that. at best he could something like a 2 year 18 million dollar deal.
Double digit pass rushers and sacks don't just fall off trees. There are very hard to find commodity.
And he was the only one that could generate any semblance of a pass rush last year.

maybe a innovative D-coach can scheme him like aldon smith or a fred dean as he's really rush specialist but hes still playing at
a very high pro bowl level in that area.

Nose Tackle is a must, before anything else along the DL. Will they just sign one in Fa or use draft resources to fill that need?

i disagree.

1) if we do not r-sign Qunn or find a suitable replacement for him on the right DE side- then its a chance we still wont be competitive pass rush
that will be a double digit sack loss and a dorace armstrong (or crawford) not happenin'

2) also there's a great chance Maliek Collins could depart for bigger market dollars - and we have to replace him and continue to find that
3 tech that is very key, ..and because of the fiasco with Trysen Hill under Marinelli, we have no idea of him anymore than what we did on draft day.
If we come up on a top regarded 3 tech prospect, i'm not passing him up for the hope that Hill emerges

Arik Armstead had been a underachiever up to this point and finally had his breakout year - but some are questioning was that due to rookie stud Nick Bosa freeing him up, ..a change to a 4-3 scheme ..or a free agent contract year ?

Totally Boom or Bust type. i think Stephen will see draft pick than Arnstead.

I agree. Joseph is due nearly 13 million for the next three years and is 31.

Hopefully we could get him for around 4 years, 35-40 million and not have a terribly high cap hit.

Joseph is an animal on the inside

joseph when healthy had been a force of a run stopper, but since he is age 31 , ..that's a no -no with Stephen

Maybe true but they have 27 spots to fill lol the we have space is a myth

Those numbers are wrong. Dallas has 41 players under contract and "27 free agents" include roster fillers signed at the end like Malcolm Smith and Ray Ray Armstrong. It also includes a bunch of guys who aren't going to make the roster next year like Adam Redmond, Daniel Ross and Justin March-Lillard.

The guys who actually will take up money to resign are Byron Jones, Quinn, Cobb and maybe Maliek Collins. If you pay through the nose for those guys you still have plenty of money left over even without restructures.

I was thinking DT Hargrave from Steelers and DT Phillips
