A cop does not have to be a jerk in order to be on guard and cautious. Of course there are people out there that think a cop who is being cautious is being a jerk, but they would be wrong. It is a tough job. There are some bad apples out there, but I feel the majority are good ones.

I agree. Now you act like an idiot towards the cop they can all become major jerks and with good reason. Best thing do what they ask of you.

It does? I condemned both the officer and the girls in that case. They deserved to be taken down with force, but the officer should not have punched her in the face.

He defended himself, he could have taken the knight stick and beat the hell out of her. She made a move towards him and he clocked her and she got exactly what she was asking for. You go off on a cop and act like they did I have no problem with that officers action. She could have avoided the whole deal and would have gotten no more than a minor ticket for jaywalking her action alone caused the problem.

It's called proper protocol. You can't give a man with that type of authority free reign to do as he pleases. This is why they are taught how to proceed in situations like this. He obviously failed to apply what he learned.

She went after him as he was making an arrest she got what she asked for. She wanted to act like a man she got treated like a man. That cop does not have time to play games he has a gun at his side and he stopped her cold, notice after that she backed off. Some one else may do something different fine but the end result was the officer was able to do his job and go home at the end of his shift

Off topic question; Where do the police get the money for a reward leading to an arrest (like the $100,000 in this instance)?

The city.

I don't know the answer for curtain, but my guess it that there is some federal and state money that is earmarked for situations like this, and anything above that comes from citizen contributions.

Probably asset forfeiture.

I love that this is an excuse for cops to be jerks and overreact in EVERY situation.

They were pulling over a car without a license plate. What normal person drives around without a license plate? On top of that, the driver had a rap sheet and outstanding warrants.

Maybe, just maybe, that situation warrants slightly different reaction than citing someone for jaywalking.

This story brings to mind FloridaRob's sig about why police unloaded 58 rounds into the cop killer... "Because that's all we had."
