2 HS Kids in GA died from Football ...

I thought I saw a blurb somewhere this morning where a HS Coach died from heat related problem this week as well.

Coaches and players really need to be careful.

Football is so important at my former HS, that they constructed an indoor practice facility. That's the only way to really combat the heat...

It's impossible for these kids to properly hydrate while battling the heat with all of the gear on...

It's really a sad situation...

I hate seeing young people die. That's the most tragic thing in life, I think.

I agree. Growing up and playing football in the heat is tough. Coaches need to make sure they are giving ample breaks and making sure the kids on taking in a lot of water.

One of them died while in Florida, not that it matters....

In GA they have a rule that high schools can't practice with shells on (Helmets/shoulder pads) when the temperature is above 100 heat index ( not necessarily 100 degrees, but with the heat index)

So you either practice with just pants on and a shirt, or indoors.

I played high school football in GA( graduated about 7 years ago) and that was the rule then.

Although I've had quite a few practices where I FELT like, I was gonna die. Probably wasnt even close, but I sure felt like it.

It's so hard to stay hydrated on those hot humid summer days.

Don't be so quick to jump on the coaches. A lot of players aren't quick enough to speak up when they get dizzy and the coaches aren't mind-readers.

I live in Atlanta and it is so humid out here you can drink 3 gallons of water and not pee. I sweat walking 14 feet to my car everyday after work and I am not out of shape by no means. It's because most school can't afford an indoor practice facility and football must go on. Kids need to be the first to speak up because if a coach notices its probably already too late.

The entire state of Georgia should be closed cause it sucks so bad there. ;)

Why cant they move the season back 4-6 weeks ... dont even start practice until Sept.

Humidity is a bear. I lived in new Orleans for a while and that 98% humidity hits you like a lead pipe when you leave your house or office. Your sweating immediately. Houston and South Florida are similar.

I live in Dallas now and we're having one of our more brutal summers. it seems that it's been over 100 for 30 days straight now, or more.
But yesterday, I went for a short walk at lunch in 105+ degrees and did not come close to sweating. It's dry as bone here. I'd prefer it was mcuh cooler, but I'll take 105 and dry over 95 and humid any day.

How do you have two-a-days when school is in session? They typically start practicing before the school year begins, so kids won't miss any classes.
