Do teams practice the 2 minute drill anymore these days? Every week I see teams making what in my opinion are stupid mistakes in their 2 minute offenses. Why on earth didnt Dallas use 1 of their timeouts after the 42 yard pass to Witten? They have a kicker who they picked up a week prior and they let 20 of their remaining 40 seconds tick off the clock. Yes it worked out but that was almost costly. Also why do teams throw 5 yard passes in the middle of field over and over? 2 minutes 40 seconds left in one game I was watching and the team runs 1 play before the 2 minute warning. Every week I see teams throwing short little 5 yard passes and running off 20 of the 120 seconds they have remaining. Seems to be it would be a lot smarter to throw the ball away and save the clock as much as possible. I just dont get it.

I think the point is the Cowboys were trying to use up as much time as possible on the clock. Understand they intended to use next play (unfortunately Adams false start screwed it up) to attempt pass for TD. Instead they tried make up 5 yards they lost (did pick up maybe 2/3 yards) and then went for FG. Happily that left Giants with only 1 second remaining on the lock so squib kick called for which would eat up the 1 second once Giant player touched the ball.
