2 or 3 QBs this season?

In an ESPN article it was suggested that dallas should just go with two qb's this season.

I think, once again, Dallas is being shortsighted at a key position. Romo is the starter and Orton is what Orton is. That is a good backup.

Fast forward five years. Is Dallas going to groom a young QB any time soon? Many of the better teams have groomed a good young QB then either traded him for something or had the future ready when the starter hung it up.

Not convinced? List the starting QB's right after Aikman retired. It is no coincidence that Dallas was terrible for a long time post Aikman. Particularly at the QB spot.

I'm sure within the next year or 2 we will see a higher ranked rookie QB's brought in to via for the backup to Romo. As it stands it is expected that Romo will see his contract extended in the near future so while I agree it is important to have the heir apparent to Romo waiting in the wings the Cowboys still have time to get this done

Not really sure. i don't see how the average fan could have any idea what to do. We don't know enough about the position of QB and what Jason is looking for to have an informed opinion. What I see of McGee is ok but doesn't fascinate me. What's between his ears is another matter. He can make all the throws but lots of guys can do that.

I'm of the opinion we should draft someone every year IF they can be had for a reasonable pick and are potentially worth the time AND we don't have to fill another position with that pick. Right now with Romo being the guy for several more years and a good backup I wouldn't fell pressed to do something right now.

I'd go with 2 QBs, but that's just me, and neither McGee nor Carpenter excite me.

On the longer-term view, I doubt the successor to Romo is even in college yet.

For two years now, we've had to play the 3rd stringer because Romo broke his clavicle or ribs, then the #2 guy was either hurt or on injured reserve. Given our offensive line, 2012 could bring more of the same. I'm not saying keep McGee, but the recent history of the team indicates that we need a decent third QB.

I have not given up on McGee in limited action the guy is completing 56% of his passes has 3 TD and 0 ints and as a 3rd he is not getting near the reps as the #1 and #2 QB.

I want to see McGee have to compete for a job but given his situation I have seen alot worse with 3rd stringers coming in and turning the ball over like crazy. Often if a backup can come in and not lose the game for you then you at least have a chance.

You shouldn't keep a 3rd qb just for the sake of keeping a 3rd qb. You have to have someone worthy of the spot and they just don't. So they should just groom someone on the practice squad if they want an emergency guy during the season although odds are going to be that at least one of the two: McGee or Carpenter will still be on the street if they need them.

None of the pass? Not true! many of them yes. Again not saying he should not have to compete but as a 3rd string QB you are not getting many reps in the course of a season so when you are thrown into the fire is it hard. I don't see any 3rd string QB playing great in large part they are not getting the time they need. Biggest thing I want to see in my 3rd string is a guy who is not going to lose the game for you, he may not make many great plays but if he is not turning the ball over that is big and McGee has not turned the ball over

Is there a position guy on the roster who has experience as a QB? Just in case we're only going with 2. Maybe a tiny point in favor of bringing P. Crayton back.

There is no reason to go with 3 QB's. That other position can be used elsewhere. Just have a 3rd stringer on the practice squad. If it comes down to us needing that 3rd QB, season is over anyways.

Keep a 3rd on the practice squad and if needed pick up someone with experience off the street.
