Huge Dallas fan like everyone else on here or we wouldn't be wasting time on a forum...

But signing 2 players from our previous practise squad doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence.

We need two safeties, a guard, a wide receiver, defensive tackle, at least two linebackers, and we sign scrubs

What am I missing?

We aren't serious about winning.

You act like these guys have been sitting on the bench or practice squads since they first left Dallas Olawale has been a starter for going on 4 years. Thomas was a starter until he was replaced by a higher more talented draft pick, who has played in 42 games in 3 years.

The way we use FA and our approach in building a team.

We sign FA to be backups or stopgap players. We build our team thru the draft.
That means we try to draft players that will be starters.

This approach also helps to have more drafted players who will be starters and it looks better in statistic (i am just a little bit funny here ;)).

Still i think it is the right (and btw only) approach to have longterm success in the NFL under the salary cap.

You sure about that?(legit question)
From what I've read he's always been a backup/good STer and started when guys ahead of him got injured.

He has some starting experience, with seven starts in 2016 when Jake Ryan and Blake Martinez struggled with some injuries and ineffectiveness. And, perhaps most crucially, he is a critical member of the special teams units. However, Thomas fell back on the depth chart in 2017 thanks to Martinez becoming an excellent starter and the team rotating in a pair of safeties — Morgan Burnett and Josh Jones — at the inside linebacker position in the Nitro package.

A FB and a tier 17 linebacker....

Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence

two positions that had holes. Thomas replaces Wilbur team still needs a replacement for hitchens and Durant. Olawale is a cheaper "better" version of smith. Are they Suh type signings but signings that were needed.

Tier 17...LOL, guy has more playing experience than Wilbur and was replaced by a guy that led the NFL in tackles last year.

They expect a 4th round comp pick for Hitchens so they won’t sign anyone that will negate it. That means only very low contracts to any qualified free agent, non tendered restricted free agents, and guys that were cut are the only possibilities from here on out. I believe there is a date in early June or so where anyone signed afterwards doesn’t count against comp picks. They may also wait until then to look for more help. Trust me, they are not losing that comp pick. Comp picks are a big part of the master plan now. You want a safety and DT? Wait for someone to cut one.

Have said this in many threads, familiarity is paramount to this coaching staff. They do not like dealing or bringing in coaches or players from other with no connection to the staff. Noticed this few years ago.....almost any new player or coach had some connection to assistant coach. To be honest, I think it's held the team back a bit...

Its possible I was looking at the games played vs starts, Martinez started 9 games his rookie year, Thomas started 7 the same year.
