So. I was devastated yesterday after hearing the news about Diggs. Not only is he a top player at his position but his voice and attitude in the locker room is going to be a massive loss for this team. Micah thank God will still be there to rally the troops and lead the defense but anyone making it seem like losing Diggs is just a next man up thing are totally out to lunch.

I was of the mind to make a move for a CB immediately as this team has what it takes to go all the way and sitting on our hands is not the way to go in my opinion. However after sleeping on it. I think that may be the way. Hear me out.

This is the kind of injury that can galvanize a team together. Make them rally around their fallen teammate and make them 10 times stronger mentally. I've seen this in sports countless times. Most recent memory is the Italian national team in the Euro cup. (yes i know soccer is different) However they lost their star LB (left back for those who dont know) and they rallied around him and won the whole thing. This also happened in my playing days. Soccer not football. I tore my ACL and MCL in the semis of our championship season and the team rallied around me and won the final game. I wont go into detail about my history in soccer but lets just leave it as I was a big part of the team and the captain.

The other side of it is the team loses its focus and starts to implode. I dont see that happening.

Moments like this can make or break your season. And I think this team and its mental makeup with Micah and Coach Mike have what it takes to rally around Diggs and play even harder. McCarthy has been here before. Coincidently in his SB win year, where the lost a lot more than one starter. So he knows what needs to happen.

What say you?

I feel that the 'make or break' injury is happening on that offensive line right now. Luckily, none of those are season-ending.

And biggest factor not being talked about on if we can recover from losing Diggs is how healthy is Lewis. They only planned on increasing his snaps incrementally.

But feels good to know that when fully healthy, there would have been a dilemma on Bland vs Lewis on who gets the most playing time. That's solved now. And that Bland/Lewis, both produce turnovers, which is the instant impact from losing Diggs.

Our team has come to rely on that yearly league leading turnover differential.

We‘ll know soon enough if Bland/Mukuamu can step up and play high level football on the outside. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks but if it doesn‘t go well for whatever reason, you start looking at trade options for sure.

Can’t let this season go to waste.

Just like some keep trying l to put all the blame on one player on the offensive side, we can't put the blame one player on the defensive side. I remember some blaming Diggs for losing the SF game last year because of his whiff tackle attempt. Reaching for straws and making excuses never won a championship.

Hmmm….

So youre saying that your team won because you were the dead weight holding them back?

We lost a very good player and a playmaker in the secondary. It stinks. There's just no way around that. With that said, adding Gilmore is looking like a brilliant move right now. If he's able to maintain his level of play this season, we're at least on par with last season's secondary. You hope Bland will improve as a 2nd year player and Lewis can hold down the slot. You also have some younger players who may(or not) emerge as positive contributors.

That's my positive spin....

This injury is about depth more than quality.

Diggs is really good, but also flawed. He gives up plays. The backups will be fine... as long as they don't get hurt, too.

The "new" starter is a 7 year veteran who was a starter last season until his injury.

How many teams in this league can lose a starting CB and replace him with a 7 year veteran with 84 games experience, 43 as a starter, 14 total takeaways, 8.5 sacks and 200 solo tackles?

Not many, I'll venture.

I think this brings the team together. Big opportunity for the young guys to step up and contribute.

I think the wisest approach would be to let the dust settle and give them 4-5 games to adjust and re-evaluate at that point.

If #2 CB is a huge problem, we can look to make a big move at that point. Trading for a guy now communicates a complete lack of faith on the guys on the roster.

Give them a chance and only make a move if you absolutely have to. This is where good coaching and chemistry come in. Thankfully this team has both— so I think they pull through stronger through this adversity

I love Bland. But he’s much better inside than outside.

This is why I haven’t panicked… yet.

Lewis has tons of experience and knows how to play in the league. Bland is a ball hawk as well.

You get two favorable games before the grind starts.

True, and Jourdan Lewis is the only "get out of jail free" card that we have at the CB position. Any other injuries to Gilmore, Bland, or Jourdan and the Cowboys defense plays with a genuine weakness. That's not to say that they can't plug in Noah Igbinoghene or Eric Scott for a game or two and still win. It just means they will have an area that requires help.

That pass rush is what makes the Cowboys go on D. They will be OK without Diggs. Look forward to his full recovery and return in 2024.

Losing Diggs will show the true heart and resolve of this team. Will they fold the tent and struggle, or will they rise to the occasion and overcome?
I'm ok with losing Diggs. It's how we respond that will guide the ship'
