So if the key to a championship winning team is hitting on the draft but doing it consistently with a mixture of difference makers and solid contributors, could we have done just that in 20 & 21?

2016 was special and yes, I include Jaylon in that (for a while at least) however we followed it up with.......

2017 - Charlton / Awuzie / Lewis / Switzer / Woods - no cornerstone players OR even 1st teamers as of now. Imagine a "re-do" on this one?

2018 - LVE / Williams / Gallup / Armstrong / Shultz - You'd take this, a bevvy of 1st teamers and if LVE was healthy, this draft would be right up there ANY team would take and call a success. However we followed that up with......

2019 - Hill / McGovern / Pollard / Wilson. I realise Cooper "could" figure in the list and Pollard is developing in to a big player but it's not delivered a cornerstone player. Again, surely another "re-do"

Which brings me to 2020 & 2021. Is this a back to back draft that's delivered (or hopefully will deliver) true cornerstone players for years to come?

Lamb and Diggs look the real thing, true cornerstone players. Gallimore at least could be regular 1st teamer for years. Biadasz is getting some stick but as as of now, a 1st teamer. What team wouldn't be happy with this draft haul?

2021 - 3 games is a bit ridiculous to be saying player X, Y, Z is a hit but no-one doubts Parsons is the real deal. We still need to see what Joseph brings but I'm hopeful. Odighizuwa looked like a motivated David Irving last week! We are seeing early contributions from a lot of the other players so it's shaping up nicely.

Having so many difference makers in back to back drafts has to give us a fighting chance of building something special. I'm hopeful I really am.

The weak 2019 & 2018 will hurt us more when we need to resign more expensive players but don't have a viable option on the roster to replace them with. Wilson is a decent option as 3rd WR if Gallup commands too much, but in many cases we'll have too many draft busts which will either mean signing players for more than we should or going to FA dumpster diving

umm 17 and 18 not great but 19 weak??

2019 you calling Cooper who was the subtitute 1 , pollard, McGovern, Wilson weak LMSAO..again glad some of you were not gms, just wiggle that keyboard harder..

other than 2016....these last 2 are among my favorite drafts over the last 10yrs.
mccarthy has knocked'm out of the park.
credit goes to mcclay and the scouts.
but i love these drafts since big mc got here as hc.
dont forget Quinn as well

its a collective credit bad ones and good ones.. when the coaches communicate well with the scouts and fo and they all get together and make the right decisions as team, thats where you start building a young hungry team..

Good post!

Agree on all except 19 being bad, considering no first rounder. There's still a shred of hope for Hill...and McGovern, Wilson and Pollard are solid. Can't not consider Cooper part of it.

What makes that draft look worse than it was is that 18, 20 and 21 were better overall.

I agree with the OP. I feel like the last two drafts have set us up so that we don’t have to do a lot in free agency. Next off-season looks pretty easy.

Re-sign: Kazee, Shultz, and C.Wilson
Draft replacements for Jaylon, LVE, and Neale

Maybe an upgrade at OC and that’s about it. That’s not a lot to achieve in an off-season and gives us a fair bit of continuity.

I don't agree with the notion that Cooper should be considered part of the draft class. The main advantage of a first round pick is you have 5 years of relatively cheap production of you hit on the draft pick. We had to turn right around and pay Cooper.

mccarthy has all authority on drafts? Hmmm, I didnt know that.
did i say that?
hmmmm.
no...
he doesn't.
but he gets credit.
he has as much say as garrett did.

you think we draft ceedee if garrett were still here?
i don't.

guess you didn't read the part of my post about credit going to mcclay and the scouts.
nope, I heard EXACTLY WHO you gave credit to. Exact reason I roll my eyes.

Go look at Quinn's last 2 drafts in Atlanta. Howd those look? How did Mike's last 3 in GB look?

his first 2 are home-runs.
roll your eyes at that.

then you heard me say credit goes to wil mcclay and the scouts.
but since he became the hc....these last 2 drafts are home runs.
don't be pissed at me because garrett sucked.
