I think Lawrence will immediately play a rotational role. He'll compete for Sam Williams's and Dante Fowler's snaps from last season, and I think he's already good enough to take them. Honestly, he reminds me of a younger Fowler.

Barham has talent, but he'll probably need a redshirt year. His NFL future is at LB, but it concerns me that he wasn't even really trusted to play there at Michigan. I'm not expecting him to play many snaps this season.

I'm not very encouraged by any of our Day 3 guys. Overton might sneak in for some snaps as a DT4.

Moore is NFL ready at CB, just can't shake the injuries. Would've easily gone in the 1st w/o them.

Too many of the other rooks are way down the depth chart and have an upwards battle. Not that it can't be done, but it is just difficult.

So after looking closely at the roster, and our perceived weaknesses: I'm taking Shelton.

It’s definitely Malachi Lawrence for me. As a first round draft pick, he’s certainly got the physical traits, but he’s also go character, work ethic, and the team’s eagerness for him to play all working in his favor.

I think he’ll be a factor in the OLB rotation. And I expect that they will look to rotate a lot at that position, unlike the others.

Why not? Just because we draft badly, there is zero reason to blame the school. The list of topflight NFL players from MICH is long: Hutchinson, Gary, Nico Collins, Mike Danna, Devin Bush, Kwity Paye. Mason Graham was a rook last year from MICH and was an absolute beast. Kenneth Grant should be coming along this season.

Mazi did not fail because he went to MICH, he failed because he lacks the traits/instincts to succeed. What does the school have to do w/ a player's success?

If it's not Lawrence we are regretting that pick big time. A Cowboy writer picking Overton and Moore reads like they got the message that they weren't all allowed to pick Lawrence. Good chance those 2 barely play on defense. One thing t like or even love a pick. Entirely different to think year 1 they have a bigger impact than a guy you took in the first round at a position that you will rotate in and that will have plenty of snaps available at
