What A Difference 4 Years Makes.
Training Camp is just 3 days away. It will be our first training camp in San Antonio since 2003. Many things have changed in that span.
Here is a brief look at some of them:
The Starting Quarterback:
2003: Quincy Carter - The Skinny: He may never play another down in the NFL. Very sad, what a waste.
2007: Tony Romo - The Skinny: Reports he has been working extremely hard and doing anything and everything to improve after last season's ending, has hopes very high among the team and the fans.
The Coach:
2003: Bill Parcells - The Skinny: Much maligned by many players and fans.
Sure Hall Of Famer who helped improve the talent level of the Cowboys greatly during his tenure, but some of his ways became suspect.
2007: Wade Phillips - The Skinny: 3-4 guru brought in mainly to shore up last season's underachieving defensive squad. Hasn't broken through to the upper echelon of NFL head coaches yet, but has never had this much talent to work with.
The Running Backs:
2003: Troy Hambrick and Richie Anderson - The Skinny: A below average RB combo that was especially lacking in the red zone.
2007: Julius Jones and Marion Barber - The Skinny: May be one of the league's top combos after combining for 1,738 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
The Number One Linebacker:
2003: Dexter Coakley - The Skinny: Solid player who did a great job for us.
2007: DeMarcus Ware - The Skinny: Could be in the running for defensive player of the year.
The Outlook:
2003: .500 season - The Skinny: A surprising overachieving season resulting in a 10-6 record and a wildcard playoff berth.
2007: Super Bowl contenders - The Skinny: To be seen.
