I was on vacation last week during the draft, so I haven't been able to read any of the initial responses from the Dallas draft. I my opinion, this year was a far cry from the A+ I thought we graded out to have last year.
I understand that BP wants to move forward with this 2 TE, 2 WR system. However, I believe it has been at the expense of losing out on one of the best OL crops in several years. Of all the top notch talent at OT, the Cowboys selected exactly zero. What a bad time to decide to look elsewhere for your talent.
Anyway, for what it's worth, here is my draft, as it could have fallen, if Dallas would have chosen the following players available at the places they were available:
Round Pick Name Position School Size Speed
1 18 Bobby Carpenter LB Ohio St. 6-3, 255 4.6
2 53 Andrew Whitworth OT LSU 6-7, 335 5.1
3 92 Jason Hatcher DE Grambling 6-6, 290 4.75
4 125 Mike Haas WR Oregon St. 6-1, 210 4.6
5 138 Pat Watkins FS Florida St. 6-5, 210 4.5
6 182 M. Stanley DT Louisville 6-2, 315 5.2
7 211 Hank Baskett WR N. Mexico 6-3, 225 4.5
7 224 Will Montgomery OG/OC V. Tech 6-3, 315 5.10
With Brett Pierce in the fold, their is nothing Fasano can add this year. Add to that Tony Curtis & Sean Ryan, and the 'Boys have way too much talent at the TE position to add one in the draft-especially in the SECOND ROUND!
Take a look at my draft & tell me if it might be an improvement. I know hindsight is 20-20, but the fact is, all of the above players were available when we picked at those places.
Hate to say it, but without an above average FA period, this would be a "D" grade this year for our draft.
