Worse draft in recent history... such a garbage draft its not even funny.

1st Round - Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State
2nd Round - Anthony Fasano, TE, Notre Dame
3rd Round - Jason Hatcher, DE, Grambling
4th Round - Skyler Green, WR, LSU
5th Round - Pat Watkins, S, Florida State
6th Round - Montavious Stanley, DT, Louisville
7th Round - Pat McQuistan, T, Weber State
7th Round - E.J. Whitley, C, Texas Tech

0 starters. None of those draft picks ever even cracked the starting lineup. Each one was an immense flop. I thought Hatcher might be something, but it turns out he's a career 2nd team guy at best. How we have such a bad draft is beyond me.

Probably starts with drafting Bobby Carpenter, when he didn't fit our scheme at all. Drafting a tight end in the 2nd round when we had Jason Witten. And drafting a kick returner in the 4th round, and taking a project in the 3rd round. Simply no good ideas here...

And no Miles Austin doesn't count.

Yeah that was a horrible draft... I commented on that fact in another thread.

excellent thread. Well thought out.

I think this shows you should always trade up to try to get catalytic players. We've spent way too much time trying to draft these project players that hardly ever work out. Thats what the 7th round and undrafted free agents are for.

We keep getting these projects in the 3-5th rounds... ***...

totally agree, u dont sit there sometimes especially in late round of first round to 4th round, you trade up like we did when picking later in each round, like we did,

when we traded up for Dez, then Lee, and then Ansah!

all of these players will be impact players for us in 3 years for sure if not sooner! :D

but but but... Bill Parcells is such a good judge of talent............!!!!!

Why're you bringing this up now? It's already established as a bad draft, move on.

Go back and analyze every team in the NFL's drafts and see if every one of their drafts produced good players. Every single team has drafts where nothing really pans out. You're just focusing in on one bad draft sandwiched in between some drafts that produced some terrific players.

The 2005 draft produced 2 all pros in D-Ware and Jay Ratliff, two more starters in MB3 and Canty, and another guy starting for SD in Kevin Burnett. The 2007 draft produced Anthony Spencer, Doug Free, and Alan Ball. The 2008 draft got us Mike Jenkins, Felix, Orlando Scandrick, Tashard Choice, and Marty B.

The draft is a crap shoot. You draft guys you think will be good pros, but it's not scientific by any means. If you would've told me 5 years ago that out of 4 drafts in a row we'd have the caliber of guys i just mentioned above but that one of the drafts would produce nothing of value, I'd still be happy as hell.

One of the worst drafts in Cowboy history.
It happens. Get over it. All teams have drafts like that on occasion.

Maybe Fasano will be back. The Cowboys need a TE. I don't know how he is doing this camp in Miami. If he gets cut by Miami, would you take him back if available?

Anthony Fasano's a decent starter in Miami is he not? Stupid pick anyways, but he's not too bad for a second round tight end. Bobby Carpenter on the other and sucks. Jason Hatcher isn't what he should've been, but for a third round pick at least he's not terrible. He's a decent backup and doesn't completely totally suck. Skyler Green on the other hand, wait...Who is Skyler Green? Pat Watkins was a decent pick. Don't get me wrong, I think he sucks, but he's not bad for a 5th rounder. The rest suck. The draft sucked.

People said that Carp benefited from playing next to AJ Hawk. I think it might be safe to say that both benefited from playing next to each other.

Bobby Carpenter - Started two games in 2009, one game in 2006
Anthony Fasano - Started six games in 2007, five games in 2006
Pat Watkins - Started one game in 2009, nine games in 2006

So I guess some of them did start a few games. But it was still a bad draft, but every team has bad drafts.

Yeah other than Carpenter the draft wasn't so bad, if we'd hit on that pick we wouldn't be *****ing about it being anything other than workmanlike. If we'd taken Davin or Jonathan Joseph, or DeAngelo Williams or Nick Mangold it would look like a decent draft now.
