I would be delighted if we got Adam Vinatieri but let's assume for a moment that NE isn't dumb enough to let him go.

One guy whose contract appears to be up after this year is Ryan Longwell of GB. He had an off year in 2005 (who didn't on GB?) but this guy is a career 81% kicker and is middle of the pack on kickoffs. He has 9 years of NFL experience, he's kicked under pressure, he's kicked in tough weather conditions and he's only 31. I'd be a lot more comfortable going into next season with a guy like Longwell than an unknown like Suisham. With the way things are going up in cheeseland he might go FA. Just a thought.

he would actually be my first look. he will be cheaper and just about as accurate and he kicks off.if you can kick in the weather of g.b. you should be a happy camper to kick in the nice confines of texas stadium

Not a bad thought. I would think his % would be better playing at least half of his games in a semi-closed stadium in Dallas. If he's a FA, we need to take a look.

If BP leaves us with another unproven kicker as our weakest link, I think I'll choke someone.

I like the kicker out of Colorado, most of you have heard of him. Mason Crosby? Is that his name. Can kick well over 50 from what I've heard. And hes not fat like Janikowski, much more accurate, he would fit well here.

the Packers will be looking to retain Longwell

No doubt. But it's possible Longwell might not want to stay. That is a team in serious rebuilding mode. Maybe Rivera could prove useful and recruit him.

Just as an aside, Longwell made 1m in salary in 2005, Vinatieri 2.5m.

Most kickers can kick long in Colorado because of the altitude.

Oh, man, your right. I hadn't thought about that at all. Was Elam's record kick AT Denver? That really would explain a lot.
