The 2007 season is where the Giants put it all together and made a superbowl run. Did they start off strong? Absolutely not.

In the first game of the season, the Giants lost to our very own Cowboys 45-35.

In the second game of the season, the Giants lost to the Packers 35-13.

Let me start off by saying that I live in New York. The Giants were off to an 0-2 start and the NY mediots (who I'm starting to believe are even less critical than the Dallas mediots) were all over the Giants defense, quarterback and coaching staff. The same QB who would eventually lead the Giants to a superbowl victory was being called a bust. The defense was being crucified for giving up 80 points in two games. The city was calling for Coughlin's head and everyone was certain it would be his last year as head coach--most wanted him fired on the spot and didn't even want him to finish out the season.

Our start this season reminds me a lot of the 2007 Giants. We are a team who has yet to play solid on a consistent basis. There are flashes of brilliance which are quickly muddled by muffed punts, false start penalties, bogus unnecessary roughness penalties and botched snaps.

2007 was the year Manning stepped up as a leader. I think this is the year for our QB. This team as a whole is starting to play with some ferocity; I love Brooking on defense and Witten on offense rallying these guys and getting them fired up. I like Ball trying to take someone's head off. It's only a gut feeling, but I believe this team is on the cusp of putting it together and doing something special.

If we had made two more plays this season, we could very easily be 5-0. I believe we make those plays going forward.

The season is 16 games long. Enjoy the ride. :starspin

Good luck with this post. You're going to get destroyed by the self-hating fans.

The Giants of '07 were the Giants of '07.

This team isn't the Giants.

It needs to establish its own identity... If it is capable of doing that.

At this juncture the jury is out.

Quit honestly these types of comparisons are meaningless. It's just like any team that has a weak offense and potentially good defense is compared to the 2001 Ravens.

Again, comparisons are almost meaningless.

Its a different year, different team with different players.

But I think your main point stands which is emphasizing that its more important to finish strong than to start strong. That is what i am hoping for.

Last few years we peaked too early, this season we need to peak at the right time, like in December/January/February

And IMO the same applies to us. The 2008 Cowboys are the 2008 Cowboys. This team isn't the same.

Good post. I made a reference to this on yesterday. The Giants in week 5 of 2007 had to overcome a 4th quarter deficit to defeat the New York Jets, a team that finished 4-12 that year and was considered one of the worst in the league. That win IMO sparked the Giants throughout the remainder of the season. I hope we see similar results.

We just struggled to beat 0-4 Chiefs and now we could be the 2007 New York Giants :bang2:

Let's just take it one game at a time and carve out our own identity.

Wade Phillips is the Head Coach, so it's gonna be tough

I don't believe we are the 2007 Giants and agree with you in that this team needs to establish their own identity. I was merely making the comparison to get the point across that this season is far from over.

This team is 3-2, both losses are games we could have won and both losses were to teams that remain undefeated. In the past few weeks I have heard ludicrous suggestions like benching Tony Romo and fire the entire coaching staff etc... People are way too quick to write this team off; that's the point.

I agree with that.

But I also agree that this team doesn't deserve a pat on the back yet either...

Very soon it needs to stand-up to a very good team and punch it in the mouth.

It's had two chances so far and the results were less than inspiring.

It needs an inspiring win against a tough foe.

And if it doesn't happen soon, it probably will not happen.

And they struggled to beat the 4-12 Jets. They were not lighting it up either early on.

After the 2nd Game, the Giants went on a 6 game winning streak.

The 2009 Cowboys haven't shown they can do that.

I'm not saying the Cowboys cannot get hot and march into the Playoffs. I'm just saying I will take it one game at a time and see how things play out.

I think Cowboys fans, who have followed this team through the recent Playoff Drought have been loyal enough and witnessed enough disappointment to at least say let's take it one game at and carve out our own identity.

While I would love to believe there is a comparison, their isn't. The Cowboys are what they are. I doubt that they will have a season that will mirror a totally different team from two years ago.

Also the Giants have a coach that had a history of winning in the playoffs he did get the expansion team to an AFC game and won some playoff games. He is also a tough coach one that demands excellence.

One that benched his star WR for being late to meetings etc.

Wade is no Coughlin

this comparison was made many time prior to the season. we need the league to stop calling penalties on us like they did for the giants that year .. (yup still bitter).. we need to win every challenge even when it's obvious we shouldnt . we need journeymen to play like pro-bowlers all of a sudden .and we need pierce's air-horn ..

I agree about taking it one game at a time and that is exactly what the 2007 Giants did. I'm just saying that even though the win against KC was ugly, it gave us some new positives and unity to build off of. The team at halftime seemed to be in shambles and were heard saying things like "This is embarrassing," and "this team is a joke" and to see the collective cheers at the end was pretty good. I think the win gives us momentum to bring everything together.

they also finished the season 4-4 and barely beat the Bills at the end of the season. We hammered them the second time we played them that season.

They were destroyed at home by a non-playoff team the Vikings.

Wade Phillips is 0-4 lifetime in the Playoffs.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised that some are extremely skeptical and take a sarcastic approach at the thought of Wade Phillips rallying a team to the Super Bowl when he hasn't even won a Playoff Game.

I knew the Super Bowl talk would be start back again after we beat the Chiefs.

Like Keith Brooking and Bill Parcells alluded too, we have some of the most delusional fans in sports.

JonJon, it may have. But we have seen this team rally and against even better teams in the past.

I'm just not going to get sucked in anymore.

I'm taking it one game at a time and after the way we played against the Chiefs, I won't even think this season could be like the Giants in 2007.

I don't see anyone in here talking about Super Bowl. I think you are misinterpreting and misunderstanding what people are getting at. No one said we are going to the Super Bowl. What people are saying is if you get off to a average or poor start like the Giants did in 07 you don't give up on the season and there is still reason for hope. That's it. You are looking way to deep in to things.
