The 2007 season is where the Giants put it all together and made a superbowl run. Did they start off strong? Absolutely not.
In the first game of the season, the Giants lost to our very own Cowboys 45-35.
In the second game of the season, the Giants lost to the Packers 35-13.
Let me start off by saying that I live in New York. The Giants were off to an 0-2 start and the NY mediots (who I'm starting to believe are even less critical than the Dallas mediots) were all over the Giants defense, quarterback and coaching staff. The same QB who would eventually lead the Giants to a superbowl victory was being called a bust. The defense was being crucified for giving up 80 points in two games. The city was calling for Coughlin's head and everyone was certain it would be his last year as head coach--most wanted him fired on the spot and didn't even want him to finish out the season.
Our start this season reminds me a lot of the 2007 Giants. We are a team who has yet to play solid on a consistent basis. There are flashes of brilliance which are quickly muddled by muffed punts, false start penalties, bogus unnecessary roughness penalties and botched snaps.
2007 was the year Manning stepped up as a leader. I think this is the year for our QB. This team as a whole is starting to play with some ferocity; I love Brooking on defense and Witten on offense rallying these guys and getting them fired up. I like Ball trying to take someone's head off. It's only a gut feeling, but I believe this team is on the cusp of putting it together and doing something special.
If we had made two more plays this season, we could very easily be 5-0. I believe we make those plays going forward.
The season is 16 games long. Enjoy the ride. :starspin
