Realize it's a long time til offseason begins and expect Cowboys to do well in remaining games and post season as well. But since I can't think of anything else to post about today, thought I'd get your views on which positions we need update in FA and the draft. I know, I know we all excited about how Cowboys playing but you never can improve your team enough. I don't think Cowboys need add a lot of players like we have in other years in FA. Also in the few more recent mock drafts I've seen, they have us going as low as 23/24 and that could drop even lower if we win next few games. The lower we draft the less likely we are to get a starter even in the first round.

So here's my ideas in FA where I'd like to see us sign maybe 3 players:

1. Sign a young OG like Kris Diehlman of the Charges or OG John Steinbach of Cincinnati -- both of them will be FAs next year & an upgrade over Riveria. Would expect it to cost us about $6M but we'd save $7M cap hit assuming Bledsoe's not back.

2. Backup FA vet who has similar playing style like Romo so we don't have to dramatically change game plan.

3. Sign FA FG kicker unless Gramatica works out.

Thoughts re draft; I do think on first day we will take BPA particularly if they at positions we need:

a. Draft a stud OT who can develop in his first year & who in 08 can compete/backup Adams or Colombo. Obviously McQuistan might be that guy but we need to be sure cause we definitely must upgrade our OL for Romo's protection & also help our running game.

b. NT behind Ferguson. Don't know if we've got even a decent backup on the team yet but we must ensure a capable one is on board to alternate with Ferguson and maybe also be our future starter.

c. We've got a hole in our secondary and it's at FS. Davis isn't the answer and Watkins hasn't yet stepped up. I'm hoping Watkins does step up a little during rest of season so Cowboys can be sure he's the guy. If any doubts, we must get ourselves a legit starting FS.

d. Also see need add a good young CB. Newman/Henry/Glenn good but don't think guys behind them are legit future starters. We need a young CB who can step in long term should any of these 3 go down; also Glenn will be here another year but he's 34.

We have all our draft picks (except the 6th which we traded to KC for Fujita) but we also have 2 extra 7th round picks (got one for Shanle from NO) but don't remember where the other one came from but NFL does list us with 2. Some of you want good young WR to groom or better RB, etc. I think it possible Parcells might indeed draft a WR but I think he really likes Hurd & Austin.

Resign: We have a few young Cowboys who we should resign. That list includes Gurode, Colombo, Crayton? & maybe Singleton. Don't remember any other players of significance. Doubt Al Johnston will be back cause he'll get more money as a starter somewhere else.

BTW: I saw posted an analysis of our front 7 and seems reviewer not that impressed with Carpenter yet. While I was thinking Singleton won't be back, it's entirely possible we bring him back just for quality depth for 1-2 years. He played very well in game against Tampa in Ellis' absence as did Hatcher.

It's a pipe dream, and totally unrealistic, and unfounded, and wishful......

but what I wouldn't give for Adalius Thomas.

Pretty good summary of our situation, though. The draft we could go CB, or if there are any can't miss NT prospects.

You are correct, for Sean Ryan.

Adalius Thomas would be great, but where to play him?

Ware-Ayodele-James-Thomas
Burnett-Fowler-Carpenter-Singleton

Carpenter becomes a huge wasted pick since all the starters would be locked up.

Hopefully one of the main additions for 2007 will be Josh Brown.

Just have him on the field. He can play any position, hell, they've played him in a safety spot.

You know, you're right. Ravens had him playing on Chad Johnson last time.

Though I'd still hate to sit a lot of talent too much in Burnett and Carpenter.

Like I said - pipe dream. It makes no sense at all. But he might be the best LB in the league. If the Ravens let him go, they're ********. Suggs might end up being homeless, though.

Didn't you hear? We are going to draft Brady Quinn in the first, Cal Johnson in the 2nd, Adrian Peterson in the 3rd, Jarrett in the 4th, Ginn in the 5th, Landry for one 7th and trade the other for Steve Hutchinson. Oh, Weiss is leaving ND to be the head coach and Jimmy Johnson is coming back to be the OC.

I want to draft Reggie Nelson from Florida!
Agreed. Nelson plays one of the deepest FS I've ever seen and has great speed and ball instincts. With his speed he'd be able to make-up for Roy Williams mistakes in coverage. Our defense would be practically flawless. I think next year we should have the luxury to draft the best available player, since we don't have too many glaring holes. I'd kinda like to improve the o-line a bit though.

Ginn in the 5th? Reach

I'd ask for Hutch and a 6th for our 2nd 7th, at best.

Yeah. Let's just give Carpenter that position since he was a first round pick. That's a bigger waste. Giving a guy a position so that we can say he wasn't a waste.

I'm quite sure I didn't say he starts, but by bringing in Thomas, he starts.

Ware-Ayodele-James-Thomas

No competition even for Carp
