Robert Brewster will make the team as a backup lineman to be developed (likely taking the place of one of the linemen who has been given time but hasn't developed). Dallas would not risk him getting to the practice squad because someone would claim him on waivers.
Stephen McGee was drafted to be the third quarterback and that will be his role no matter how he plays in the preseason. Dallas was looking long term when it drafted him and would be satisfied this year with just seeing flashes of ability.
Manuel Johnson apparently played well in the minicamp but is in a tough situation to make the 53-man roster. He'd have to really impress while others who have been here longer fail to impress. It could happen if Isaiah Stanback continues to struggle with injury, but I don't see Johnson moving up enough to get a roster spot, instead landing on the PS.
Stephen Hodges is probably fourth in the pecking order at inside linebacker based on who we have, but the primary reason he'll make the team this year is because of what he adds to special teams. If he was just a developmental linebacker, I could see him going on the PS, but he's being counted on as a major special teams contributor
John Phillips could be the only other drafted rookie, other than Johnson, to end on the practice squad, if Rodney Hannah beats him out as the third tight end. But it's looking good for Phillips in that he's shown the versatility to handle the regular tight end and H-back roles. Hannah is probably more gifted as a receiver, but Phillips seems to bring the whole package, including ability to handle the fullback job, that is more valued in a third tight end. Of course, Dallas could keep four tight ends and no fullbacks.
