I am not holding my breath for a WR in the 1st.JJ will convince himself that none of them are worth the 1st rd.BPA for the 32nd pick.

Yeah, I don't think the Cowboys are high on WR in the first or second rounds. But I could see them trade for Roy Williams of Detroit, and that makes me much happier...

I would trade the whole draft for Michael Crabtree. Just as long as he doesn't get in a wedding dress.

I would like this WR for sure!

We need to get a vet. Period!

Our window is open now.

Can't wait 2-3 years to groom a newbe (rook).

Unless someone steps up this year, we need to trade this year or next year for a proven commodity.

Moving up in the draft cost to much just to roll the dice on an unknown talent (poss. bust) with a most likely learning curve.

Hostile,
I posted in another thread about getting Roy Williams after Detroit franchised him next year. You said Detroit wouldn't tag him.

I know you get inside info, is there anything you can share that won't cause "flames" here. Not trying to stir the pot, just asking. Thanks :)

Your right about needing a veteran WR. The reason we have to get a vet now is because we didn't draft any 2 or 3 years ago to develop. At some point we have to draft a WR.

Maybe we can get a veteran no.1 but most teams won't let them go, you are rolling the dice if your waiting to fill your WR spot via free agency.

At this stage in the game, it's probably to late to get a vet. So play the hand we were dealt and maybe Glenn can be the ace in the hole, or king, at least a jack (please, please).

Now next year, different story.

1 -If one or more of the young-ins step up, no need to draft one. If not ,draft 2 in the middle rounds, rolling the dice at a lower cost.Think future even though where set up to win now.

2 -Vet - restricted or free agent or tagged player, gotta have one unless our young-ins show up.
Roy Williams: do they tag? Jerry will give him his money (free agent), or I think Jerry will trade for him if no other vets become available.

So we need a vet this year but most likely won't happen til next year.

I don't care if it stirs the pot. Some people are very tired of hearing this trade scenario and I understand that. The ones I don't understand are the people who act like it never had any validity in the first place. Like I somehow made all that up and the media jumped on what I posted. That's absurd. Drama queens; what can I tell you?

Detroit has not made a contract offer to Roy Williams. Not even a cursory one. It is my understanding that they do not plan to.

They absolutely do not want to use the Franchise Tag on him. That would mean they have to pay him the average of the top 5 WRs in the NFL. I believe the top 5 would be Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Javon Walker, Calvin Johnson, and Marvin Harrison. If any of these five are wrong I apologize.

He is probably going to try and force their hand by holding out of Training Camp. That is my assumption, not news that has been passed on to me. It makes sense for him to hold out and either get a big contract, or get the trade he wants. Why report to Camp and run the risk of an injury that could derail everything?

Make no mistake about it, the man would like to be traded anywhere if that team is going to pay him like one of those top 5 guys. He'd stay in Detroit for that matter. They can't put that much money into 2 of 22 starters and one of them not be QB. You have to remember how much dead money they have been eating at WR over Charles Rogers and Mike Williams too. Plus they paid big contracts to Mike Furrey and Sean McDonald and they are producing for the Lions. That means in reality Roy Williams is a luxury. A costly one.

A similar equivalent would be if Anthony Henry wanted Franchise money. We wouldn't give it to him because of the depth we have at CB. He could want that kind of money. He might get that kind of money. But it would not be here. It would have to be somewhere else.

Roy Williams has always wanted to play in Dallas and the Lions know this. They would pull the trigger if the deal was right. I know that before the Draft the Lions called us to offer him, not we called them to ask. That is significant to me. I do not know what we were offering or what they were asking. We obviously know a deal could not be reached, or he'd be here and Terry Glenn would be gone already.

If Terry Glenn can't go, or won't sign the injury tender, I suspect Jerry could up the offer. If he can go, maybe we roll the dice and wait for Free Agency in 2009. He would easily be the top prize in next year's Free Agent crop I believe and we'd be in a bidding war against probably Philly for him. Jerry doesn't want that. No GM does.

By far, the easiest solution for all sides is for Detroit to trade him to us where he would agree to a long term deal for less money than if they offered him to someone else. If they do not trade him, they probably lose him and get nothing in return. They could Franchise him and try and trade him, but again, the team trading for him would have to be able to get a long term deal. That's the thing people forget. Roy Williams holds the trump card here. No one is going to trade for him unless they can re-work his deal so that they can keep him beyond 2008. Detroit knows it will be harder to strike a deal with from any other team because Roy will demand more from the other teams. He's not made that any secret.

This next part is once again my speculation. If I were guessing what we will send Detroit to get him there would be 3 players I think we might offer, plus a draft pick possibly.

Anthony Henry. Free Agent after 2009 that we will not re-sign unless injuries decimate us. I believe this would be contingent upon Adam Jones being reinstated. If he is, maybe Henry is on the bargaining table since we have CB depth.

Marcus Spears. He will be Free Agent after 2008, and Jay Ratliff seems to be the player the Cowboys prefer at LDE. If Tank can start at NT and we have someone to spell him now and then, Spears could be gone.

Greg Ellis. It would depend on the progress of Anthony Spencer and if we want to get him out there all the time. This is the least likely scenario.

I hope this all made some sense. I will say the same thing I said the last time I shared that we were looking to add him. It may not happen. There are a lot of factors that would have to click just right to make it happen. I believe it will, simply because it makes so much sense for the Lions, the Cowboys, and Roy Williams himself.

Crabtree is extremely over hyped. Your in the same group of people who at this time last year said that Early Doucet and DeSean Jackson were going to be Top 10 picks in the 2008 draft.

I will GUARANTEE that Crabtree won't be a Top 20 pick in next years draft, let alone "trading our whole draft" for the guy.

Over hyped??? You must be an Aggie or something. This kid is the best receiver I've seen since Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald in college. I think he's good enough to even start right off the bat. These kind of players don't come around too often.

I GUARANTEE he will be a top 10 pick!

Thanks Hostile,

Wait & see approach :( .

Wasn't it Detroit last year who wanted "beWare" when we inquired about a possible trade-up? I can see them wanting max bet when they don't have very many chips.

Yes, they wanted Ware for us to trade up for Calvin Johnson.

I am so glad we didn't do that. It does tell you they would like pass rush.
