2nd Round - I see us going safety here, most likely Patrick Chung to replace the beast that Williams used to be here and has SOME coverage skills on top of that. We could also go reciever here if by slim chance Derrick Williams of Penn State is still available as he has now run consistently under 4.4 in the 40 at his pro-day, much better than his 4.65 he ran at the combine with the flu.

3rd Round - Here is were I see us addressing the WR issue. I see us selecting Ramses Barden or Possibly going for Louis Murphy, if we didn't draft Derrick Williams in the 2nd round. Ramses Barden is has the most height, longest arms and biggest hands in the draft and is compared to Larry Fitzgerald with his leaping ability. He comes from a small school so there are questions surrounding his ability against top notch talent but deserves to go here. Louis Murphy, well we've seen him play against top notch defenses and can bring a nice speed element for us. We could also go Nose Tackle here.

I don't know when but i see us drafting Joe Burnett from UCF. Could be a really good return guy and we need someone for punts. Also if Miles Austin is going to be playing a consistent role on offense as well as Felix Jones, you don't need both of those guys returning kicks. If we can find a guy that is just incredible with the ball in his hands but the problem is getting the ball to him, then that is the guy you need to have returning kicks as he might not be a huge stopping factor on defense or go to on offense.

Given the recent track record of the cowboys drafting, especially in the 1st 3 rounds, I still doubt you see a safety or reciever with our first two weeks. I would expect LB, OL, or CB. For whatever reason, the cowboys have not made WR or S that high a priority in the early rounds. They took Roy Williams and Antoinio Bryant on the first day of the draft in 2002, but since then no draft picks in the first 3 rounds on a S or WR, despite some obvious depth issues we've had at these position over the last several years.

Good point about our track record, but in that case, our history with 2nd-3rd round OL is most frightening of all. Anyway, our situation has changed. Without a first rounder, we'll be looking for immediate contributors with our first two picks. With that in mind, a safety that can crack the rotation and perhaps challenge for a starting spot; a future WR1 or a WR2 prospect that can return punts are all very real options. I think Scandrick stays at CB, so that position seems less likely to me, unless that player is a PR also, like Jairus Byrd. At LB, we seem to be staffing for the present, with Carpenter likely to get a last shot. I agree with most that expect us to grab a NT late. I'm happy with our moves to allow for BPA and hope we get some intel about our early round draft board in the coming weeks. I hope we snag the highest rated player that falls to us but could easily see us trading up in the second to grab a WR we love like Nicks in hopes of keeping Crayton in the slot and pushing Austin. Everytime I hear Jones say we're standing pat at WR, it sounds more likely that's where we're headed early.
